This is the fifth time Mr. Lee Hsien Loong has visited Vietnam as Prime Minister, showing the closeness and connection between the two countries Singapore and Vietnam. |
The visit is part of a series of events organized by the two sides to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 10 years of Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Singapore. |
Most recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife paid an official visit to Singapore (February 8-10, 2023), with many substantive results. |
The Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Partnership is developing well. Economic relations continue to develop well. In the first 6 months of 2023 alone, Singapore is Vietnam's largest investment partner, with 163 newly licensed projects, 72 adjustments and 164 capital contributions to buy shares with a total registered investment capital of more than 3 billion USD. |
Before attending the official welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong laid a wreath and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. During the visit, the Singaporean Prime Minister is expected to meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. On the last day of their visit to Vietnam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will co-chair a series of activities: Attending a conference to promote the implementation of Vietnam-Singapore investment cooperation projects; meeting with outstanding students and having lunch with students at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and attending a dialogue between young leaders of the two countries and Ministers. |
Before the visit, answering the press, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung said that in October 2022, Singapore and Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on carbon credits. Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung hopes that this time the two countries will sign an agreement of great significance - the agreement on carbon credits. If signed, this will be the first agreement that Singapore has signed with a country in the world on this issue. Singapore wants the Carbon Credit Agreement to be a model for cooperation among ASEAN countries. |
