Reuters news agency quoted Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko as saying on the Telegram messaging app: "Air defense forces are working to eliminate the threat in Kiev's skies."
Reuters reporters heard explosions in the capital and surrounding areas, believed to be the sound of air defense systems operating.
The attack comes ahead of talks between Ukrainian and US officials in Saudi Arabia, where both sides hope to make significant progress in ending the more than three-year conflict.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism about the meeting, speaking to reporters on his way to Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Marco Rubio emphasized that the US needs to understand Ukraine's position and have a general view of the concessions that Kiev will make. Besides, Washington and Kiev still have many details to discuss about the mineral agreement between the two sides.
In addition, according to the head of US diplomacy, Washington clearly sees that it will be very difficult for Ukraine to return to the 2014 borders. "Both sides need to come to an understanding that there is no military solution to this situation," he affirmed.
The US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia are scheduled for today, March 11. The US side includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff. The Ukrainian delegation includes Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andrey Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
