The Bodhi tree (scientific name is Ficus religiosa) in Hai Ninh village, Kim Tan commune, Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong was recognized as a Vietnamese heritage tree in 2022 by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Heritage.
This is the first heritage tree in Kim Thanh district with an age of about 300 years.
The tree is about 20 - 25m tall, with a raspberry-shaped canopy, lush green branches and leaves spreading about 250m2.
The Bodhi tree has an upright posture, one main trunk, slightly tilted, trunk circumference is 6.5m, diameter 2m.
The tree has a milky white sap with a fragrant smell. The tree begins to bear fruit in May and October with ripe fruit that is sweet and edible.
In 2024, the tree was knocked down by Typhoon No. 3 Yagi, but was later replanted by local people and authorities and continued to grow well.
The kapok tree in Khanh Thien pagoda, Lac Thien village, Lien Hoa commune, Kim Thanh district was planted when the pagoda was built during the Nguyen dynasty, 19th century.
The kapok tree is a 25m tall tree, 97.34cm in diameter, with leaves spreading about 310m2. The kapok tree usually blooms in July and August.
In 1951, Khanh Thien Pagoda was burned to the ground to serve the resistance war against the French. The trees in the pagoda were also destroyed, leaving only the kapok tree, which has been preserved to this day. In 2009, the kapok tree was listed by the Hai Duong Museum as an ancient tree that needs to be honored and protected.
In 2023, this 175-year-old kapok tree was recognized as a "Vietnam Heritage Tree" by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.
