Determined to get rich on his homeland, Mr. Lanh Van Chung (born in 1965, Hong Thai Dong commune, Dong Trieu city, Quang Ninh province) built a farm combining crop cultivation and livestock farming. By following VietGAP procedures and applying science and technology, Mr. Chung is able to manage an entire farm but still be very relaxed.

Mr. Lanh Van Chung said that with the desire to develop the economy, he traveled to many places, doing many jobs from trading buffaloes and cows to construction contracting, wood processing... After traveling a lot and experiencing a lot, he returned and decided to get rich on his homeland.
While struggling with the problem of what to plant and what to raise to bring high economic efficiency, Mr. Chung realized that the Hong Thai Dong area was considered very suitable for guava trees.
"Many people from other regions moved here to grow guava, lychee, custard apple, etc., but I am a local and it would be a waste to leave my garden empty. After studying the soil quality and market demand, I went to the Hanoi Agricultural Academy 1 to research and started experimenting with growing Taiwanese pear guava in 2018," said Mr. Chung.
During the process of growing fruit trees, Mr. Chung was regularly promoted and mobilized by Hong Thai Dong Commune and Dong Trieu Town Farmers' Association (now Dong Trieu City Farmers' Association) to participate in safe production areas certified by VietGAP, concentrated production areas in the direction of specialization, maximizing production strengths in the area. Therefore, in 2022, Mr. Chung began to innovate, applying the process of planting and caring for Taiwanese pear guava in the direction of VietGAP.

Along with 600 Taiwanese guava trees, he is now expanding the scale, planting other fruit trees such as dragon fruit, areca nuts... all following VietGAP standards.
At the beginning of applying the VietGAP planting process, he also encountered many difficulties. However, he was supported by professional units and the Farmers' Association with advice on the process of care, pest control, and proper use of pesticides, etc.
Mr. Chung said that growing guava according to VietGAP standards, the steps of using fertilizers, irrigation water, chemicals, and pesticides must be carried out in accordance with regulations to produce safe and quality products. Thanks to that, the quality of guava is better, the guava has a shiny green color, thick flesh, thin skin, few seeds, light aroma, crispy guava pieces, and a rich sweet taste when eaten.
With his hands deftly wrapping the young guavas in plastic bags and trimming unnecessary leaves and branches, Mr. Chung said that if well cared for, from the third year onwards, on average each mature guava tree can produce 70-100kg of fruit per year. However, if exploited to the maximum, the quality of the fruit will not be guaranteed and the tree will quickly die. To prolong the life of the tree, he takes care to only harvest about 50-70kg of fruit per guava tree each year.

Mr. Chung also invested in drip irrigation and splash irrigation systems for the orchard, controlling the irrigation system via software on a smartphone. Thanks to that, he not only saves water and electricity costs, but also saves time on care while still achieving high yields.
In addition to growing fruit trees, Mr. Chung also combines raising VietGAP chickens on an area of about 5000m2 . Every year, Mr. Chung sells about 100,000 commercial chickens, which are purchased by traders.
Introducing the chicken raising process at his farm, Mr. Chung said that the barn system is built in an industrial direction with an automatic feeding and drinking trough design. Thanks to that, Mr. Chung only needs to pour bran and water into the large trough, the system will automatically adjust according to the sensor.
Along with that, Mr. Chung also installed a fan and air conditioning system to help the barn maintain stable temperature and humidity according to each stage of the chickens' development. In addition, he always focuses on environmental sanitation and disease prevention for the barn. Therefore, the chickens always develop evenly, limiting pathogens from entering the barn.

According to Mr. Chung, thanks to raising chickens according to VietGAP process, applying science and technology, advanced equipment in animal husbandry, it brings higher economic efficiency, frees up labor, reduces costs, improves productivity, product quality, prevents diseases, ensures environmental hygiene...
Evaluating the model of Mr. Lanh Van Chung's household, Ms. Dang Thi Sen - President of the Farmers' Association of Dong Trieu City said that Mr. Lanh Van Chung's combined crop and livestock farm is one of the typical production models in the area. Currently, Mr. Chung's farm is creating jobs for about 10 regular workers, and 5-7 seasonal workers.
This not only contributes to creating jobs and increasing income for Mr. Chung's family and local workers, but also actively contributes to transforming the local crop structure. Currently, Mr. Lanh Van Chung's Taiwanese guava and commercial chicken products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products.
