According to the report of Lang Chanh District People's Committee and the results of the actual inspection, due to the impact of storm No. 3 in 2024 (storm Yagi) and the storm circulation in Lang Chanh district, there was prolonged heavy rain, causing a landslide behind the construction site of Lam Phu Secondary School, Lang Chanh district.

The project under construction has experienced a landslide about 75m long and 13m high, completely collapsing the restroom area, flooding the first floor and seriously affecting the structure of the 2-storey, 8-room classroom building (pillars are tilted, broken, exposed steel; foundation and wall cracks; high risk of collapse).

The landslide also risks causing damage to other existing items and structures of Lam Phu Secondary School, seriously affecting the school's teaching and learning.

It is the peak of the rainy season, landslides are at risk of continuing to develop, the possibility of causing the collapse of existing structures in the landslide affected area is very high.

Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assigned Lang Chanh District People's Committee to closely monitor the development of landslides and promptly report when dangerous situations occur; set up barriers, monitoring markers and warning signs within the landslide area; widely announce on mass media; do not allow people and vehicles to enter landslide areas and areas at risk of being affected by landslides, especially when heavy rain occurs.

Lang Chanh District People's Committee urgently develops, approves and implements in practice a key plan to prevent and combat landslides in the area of Lam Phu Secondary School, Lang Chanh District, ensuring safety for people and property according to the "four on-site" motto, especially proactively evacuating/relocating people and property at risk of being affected when heavy rains and dangerous situations occur; implementing appropriate reinforcement measures to limit the development and impact of landslides...

In the long term, Lang Chanh District People's Committee is assigned to inspect, survey, and specifically evaluate the scope, scale, and level of landslides and determine appropriate treatment solutions, report to competent authorities for consideration, and decide on financial support for investment and implementation, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and long-term stability for landslide-affected areas.

As Dan Tri reported, heavy rains caused by storm No. 3 from September 11 to 13 caused landslides and rocks to flood into the 2-storey building with 8 classrooms and auxiliary works of Lam Phu Secondary School (Lang Chanh District).

The landslide caused a large amount of soil and rock to tilt the school building forward. In many places, the walls were cracked 5-7cm wide; some columns were bent and broken. In two classrooms, soil flowed down and collapsed part of the wall.

The above school project started construction in August 2023 and has so far completed about 80% of the project volume.

On September 22, due to complicated developments of floods and landslides, nearly 300 students in Muong Lat district (Thanh Hoa) had to be evacuated to ensure safety.
