The Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station is currently managing nearly 1,970 fishing vessels, including nearly 1,100 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more, operating offshore. To strictly inspect and control fishing vessels entering and leaving Tinh Ky and Tinh Hoa fishing ports, the unit assigns officers and soldiers to be on duty 24/7 at border control stations. In addition, the unit uses newly reinforced patrol boats to patrol and promptly detect fishing vessels operating nearshore, ensuring security and order in the coastal border area managed by the unit. Major Tieu Tan Hiep - Political Commissar of the Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station said that the unit has identified the prevention and combat of IUU fishing as an urgent and important task. The unit is determined to thoroughly handle IUU fishing violations in the management area.
To strengthen the management and protection of maritime border sovereignty, especially the determination to thoroughly handle IUU fishing violations, the provincial Border Guard has recently mobilized and increased 35 officers and 4 patrol boats for its affiliated border posts. The reinforced forces and vehicles are deployed at border control stations. Mobile patrol teams coordinate with patrol units to inspect and handle fishing vessels that are not registered, inspected, or licensed; and fishing vessels that do not complete exit and entry procedures.
Colonel Nguyen Van Dat - Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard said that along with increasing forces and means to patrol and control fishing vessels and prevent and combat IUU fishing, the Provincial Border Guard Command has directed units to strengthen propaganda work and raise fishermen's awareness of preventing and combating IUU fishing. With the peak emulation campaign against IUU fishing that the Provincial Party Committee and Border Guard Command are implementing, they are determined that there will be no vessels or fishermen violating IUU fishing in the coming time.
