Dien Bien TV - Dien Bien, the land at the end of the Northwest, is still known as the homeland of the pure white flower - Ban flower. The whole province has many ancient Ban forests in the districts of Dien Bien, Muong Cha, Muong Ang and Tua Chua. When the Ban Flower Festival has become a typical tourism product, protecting the ancient Ban forests has become an urgent task.
The valley of Bauhinia flowers in Chieu Ly village, Sa Long commune, Muong Cha district has about 5,000 Bauhinia trees; including many ancient Bauhinia trees that are over 30 years old, with trunk diameters of over 1m, distributed over an area of about 5km2. Every March, the ancient Bauhinia forest in Chieu Ly village blooms brilliantly, showing off its pure white color, creating a romantic and poetic scene, captivating people's hearts. To protect the existing Bauhinia tree area and promote tourism development, the local government has conducted an inventory and numbered each Bauhinia tree.
Mr. Ho A Thao, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Long Commune, Muong Cha District, said: "The commune always propagates, mobilizes, and includes the content of preserving ancient forests in village meetings, especially households with fields in the valley area, not to cut down forests."

About 50 km from the center of Dien Bien Phu City, in the protective forest area and among the houses of the people of Nam Cum village, Ngoi Cay commune, Muong Ang district, there are also about 1,200 ancient Bauhinia trees. Every year, when Bauhinia blooms, this land seems to be brighter and more beautiful like a dreamland. Nam Cum village currently has more than 70 households, with over 400 Mong ethnic people living there. Although 100% of the households in the village are poor and near-poor, the people of Nam Cum have never thought of cutting down Bauhinia trees to use for expanding agricultural production areas or to get wood for building houses.
Mr. Giang A Thai, a resident of Nam Cum village, shared: “People living near this Ban forest, even when building houses, will not cut down the Ban forest. I myself will also promote the youth union members in the village to protect the ancient Ban forest together, not to cut it down in the future.”
Amidst the majestic mountains and forests, the Ban flowers radiate their pure colors, growing strongly on the harsh land, like the resilient will of the 19 ethnic groups in Dien Bien. The Ban flowers have become an indispensable part of the cultural life of the people of Dien Bien, so the people actively participate in protecting the Ban forest to preserve their national identity, and the government sees it as an opportunity to develop tourism.

“The district has stepped up propaganda work to raise people’s awareness of the conservation and management of Ban forests in Sa Long commune in particular and the district in general. At the same time, the district has directed solutions to continue promoting the value of Ban forests, thereby linking conservation to tourism development.” - Mr. Trang A Lu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council of Muong Cha district, informed.
Many localities in the province are focusing on developing community tourism based on the advantages of traditional culture, unique customs and practices, and the beauty of ancient Ban flower forests. Certainly, on the journey from all over the country to Dien Bien to attend the Ban Flower Festival every March, the ancient Ban flower forests will always be an interesting and attractive stop./.
