(Dan Tri) - At many top universities, transcripts continue to be used in admissions but as an "attachment".
To date, many universities have stopped using high school transcript scores in admissions. However, there are still a number of top universities that continue to use transcript scores for admissions, but only as an "attached" criterion.
According to the latest information from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, in 2025, the school will stop considering transcript scores in the independent admission method but will continue to use transcript scores in the admission method combined with specialized competency assessment test scores.

Accordingly, in the specialized exam, candidates only need to take 1 main subject in the admission combination. For the remaining 2 subjects, the school will use the average score of 6 semesters of 3 years of grades 10, 11 and 12. The score ratio between the main subject and the remaining 2 subjects may change in the direction of increasing the weight of the main subject.
This is a combined admission method that the school has used stably since 2024 and will continue to consider using in this year's admission season.
According to a representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the school maintains the admission based on high school transcripts in a combination with competency assessment scores to avoid exam pressure for candidates, especially in the context of many changes in the 2018 General Education Program.
At the same time, the school is also considering using a larger weight for the specialized competency assessment test for admission this year.
At the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - one of the leading university training institutions in the country in the field of engineering - high school transcript scores are a small element among many elements of the comprehensive admission method.
High school transcript scores are used in the comprehensive admission method of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology along with many other criteria depending on the subject such as the capacity assessment score of Ho Chi Minh City National University, high school graduation score, international certificates...
Not to mention, the school also calculates interview scores, cultural, sports, and social activity achievements.
At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), academic records are only a small part of method 1 of direct admission and priority admission.
Specifically, there is admission based on high school academic results for candidates with excellent achievements, especially outstanding in social activities, arts and sports.
Admission is based on high school academic results combined with IELTS, TOEFL iBT certificates or Vietnamese language proficiency for candidates graduating from foreign high school programs.
Consideration of high school transcripts combined with international certificates for the 2+2 foreign joint training program, English and Chinese language majors.
According to the enrollment plan of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, in 2025, the school will recruit directly and prioritize admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; admission will use the results of the high school graduation exam; admission will take the VSAT exam and the capacity assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University; admission will be based on the school's own project.
With this school's own admission method, academic records are used in the following priority orders: candidates with good academic records and training + foreign language certificates; candidates with good academic records and training; academic records + international foreign language certificates; considering academic records.
The leader of a university in Ho Chi Minh City said that currently many universities still use transcripts in admissions because considering transcripts has certain advantages for both training institutions and candidates.
Candidates can proactively choose schools during their high school studies, reducing exam pressure, and schools can also proactively select recruitment sources.
However, according to him, school records are now rarely considered by schools, especially public schools, as an independent admission method due to "somewhat lack of reliability".
Therefore, schools use transcripts with other conditions such as high school graduation scores, foreign language certificates, separate exam scores, etc. to reduce pressure and ensure quality.

The Ministry of Education and Training also recommends that schools should set an additional threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) using high school graduation exam scores for the admission method based on transcripts.
In addition, to ensure the quality of the transcripts as well as to avoid candidates neglecting their studies, according to the revised admission regulations, if applying for admission based on transcripts, it is mandatory to consider the entire second semester of grade 12.
