According to World Bank estimates, from now until 2040, Vietnam needs to invest an additional 368 billion USD, equivalent to about 6.8% of GDP per year, for its climate change response roadmap and net zero emissions roadmap.
Therefore, the role of financial institutions such as banks is very important in providing capital, opening the way for green credit to be released to the market effectively.
At OCB, identifying and building a very early foundation for implementing a sustainable development strategy, for many years, the bank has been carrying out a series of environmental protection activities, contributing to society and especially promoting capital supply and financial services towards a green economy, environmentally friendly circular economy, environmental and social risk management with the support of many prestigious international organizations, such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Comprehensive financial solutions for businesses
In 2024 alone, OCB has been focusing on prioritizing capital sources, effectively expanding lending to value-added projects, clean energy, and high-tech agriculture such as: Renewable energy including wind power, solar power, hydropower; A+ green building; Water supply plants and smart agriculture using sustainable farming methods, drip irrigation, water storage/containment... As of December 31, 2024, green credit at OCB has increased by 30% compared to 2023. This is considered a high credit growth rate compared to banks in the entire system.
In addition, OCB also carries out a series of activities to provide comprehensive financial solutions for businesses. For example, signing a strategic cooperation agreement with IFC, aiming to become a pioneer green bank in Vietnam. Focusing on green banking transformation and improving digital banking services for SMEs and retail customers; Strategic cooperation with Genesia Ventures Investment Fund , aiming to accompany and promote the development of technology startups in Vietnam; Signing a cooperation agreement with Smedf through an indirect lending framework agreement, opening up opportunities for SMEs in Vietnam to access preferential capital sources and optimal financial solutions.
In particular, the bank also launched a loan product for Start-up businesses without collateral to help remove difficulties for Start-up businesses in the capital raising process. The only condition is that they have been in operation for 1 year or more. Accordingly, businesses can borrow without collateral, with a loan limit of up to 3 billion VND and a flexible loan term (up to 12 months).

“We are currently continuing to promote and focus on financing green, low-energy, environmentally friendly loans, in addition to lending to SMEs and businesses with female managers. In addition, OCB is also strongly developing financial services including working capital loans and cash flow management for start-up businesses with stable cash flow.
We hope to contribute to the development of Start-ups to help them become unicorns in the future. In addition, thanks to advice from prestigious international organizations such as IFC, OCB has gradually built standards and promoted green credit lending through preferential capital sources from international organizations. In 2025, to continue promoting green credit activities, we will focus on reviewing and adjusting products in a "tailored" direction to suit each customer segment. In addition, we will develop a series of new products to diversify products with supporting services to improve competitiveness," said the OCB leader.
Also within the sustainable development strategy that was built and announced, in 2024 OCB has implemented a series of programs to promote social security, share with the community and cooperate with GAIA Nature Conservation Center to green Xuan Lien forest (Thanh Hoa).
