On March 13, according to information from many agents and farmers, domestic coffee bean prices were commonly traded around 131,000 - 133,100 VND/kg. The above price decreased by 8,000 - 12,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, about 1,800 - 2,200 VND/kg lower than the peak a few days ago.

Specifically, in provinces such as Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, coffee prices are currently fluctuating between 132,000 - 133,100 VND/kg. Of which, Dak Nong is the locality with the highest price in the Central Highlands region.

Meanwhile, in Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai, green coffee prices are traded at a lower level than in the Central Highlands, commonly 131,000 - 132,000 VND/kg.

Similarly, the price of green coffee beans on the world market on the morning of March 13 (Vietnam time) tended to decrease.

Specifically, on the London exchange, the price of Robusta coffee for May 2025 delivery was at 5,508 USD/ton, down 0.79% (44 USD/ton) compared to the previous trading session; the July 2025 delivery contract also decreased by 0.53% (29 USD/ton), down to 5,484 USD/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for May 2025 delivery decreased by a larger margin, down 1.78% (7 US cents/pound), to 386.75 US cents/pound; the July 2025 futures contract decreased by 1.52% (5.85 US cents/pound), to 378.55 US cents/pound.

According to many businesses, coffee prices are still quite high and depend on many factors, mainly supply and demand and speculative activities. Therefore, frequent increases and decreases in the short term are understandable.

However, with prices currently 3-3.5 times higher than the common level of previous years, many coffee farmers are making big profits; some agents and businesses that purchased this item at previously low prices are also making significant profits.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online recently, Mr. Do Ha Nam, vice president of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, said that the global coffee supply has decreased, and many countries have no crops at this time.

Therefore, if Vietnam sells in moderation at this time, coffee prices will likely remain good, and in fact, many farmers are still choosing to store their goods.

Worry about erratic weather

With good selling prices, many businesses expect that Vietnam's coffee export turnover this year could reach a record of over 6 billion USD, or even 7 billion USD if things go well.

However, many experts are concerned that coffee production may not be as expected because climate change is taking place in a complicated manner, leading to a decrease in irrigation water sources and erratic rain and sunshine affecting the rate of flowering and fruit setting of coffee.

In 2023 and 2024, many coffee areas in the Central Highlands will die or have sharp decreases in productivity due to lack of irrigation water and disease.
