Celebrating 50 years of Liberation Day of Son Tinh district

(Baoquangngai.vn) - The District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Tinh district solemnly held the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Son Tinh district (March 25, 1975 - March 25, 2025).

The celebration was held on the morning of March 22, at the Central Square of Son Tinh District (Tinh Ha Town).

At the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tinh District Pham Xuan Vinh read a speech reviewing the heroic tradition in the struggle for national liberation and the process of construction and development of the district over the past 50 years.

As a locality with an early tradition of patriotic and revolutionary struggle, Son Tinh was the place where the enemy concentrated fierce attacks. From 1960 to 1975, the enemy committed 123 massacres on this land, typically the Dien Nien - Phuoc Binh massacre in October 1966 when 180 innocent civilians were massacred; especially the Son My massacre on March 16, 1968, which killed 504 civilians at the same time, shaking millions of human hearts. The entire district had 86 villages destroyed, the hometown hamlets were plowed into white belts.

During the great resistance war of the nation, under the leadership of the district Party Committee, the army and people of the district persevered, overcame all hardships and sacrifices, fought bravely and tenaciously, and won many victories on the battlefield. Especially the glorious victory of Ba Gia in May 1965, which contributed to the defeat of the "Special War" strategy of the US imperialists on the southern battlefield and the victory on March 25, 1975 has been and will forever be an immortal heroic epic, a shining point in history and a source of pride for the army and people of heroic Son Tinh.

After the liberation day, the army and people of Son Tinh district joined hands to overcome the consequences of war. Following the direction of the Central Party Committee, the province and based on the practical situation of the locality, Son Tinh district concretized the resolutions and plans of the superiors, correctly determined the development direction and goals for each revolutionary stage, focused on economic and social development, maintained security and national defense and brought about many proud achievements.

Implementing Resolution No. 123/NQ-CP dated December 12, 2013 of the Government, 9 communes and 1 town of the district merged into Quang Ngai City, from February 1, 2014, Son Tinh district has only 11 communes. The area and economic development driving forces have been narrowed, the infrastructure serving production, business, and services has not met the requirements, ... causing many difficulties in the management and implementation of economic, social, security, and defense criteria.

With outstanding efforts, strong will and attention from all levels, sectors, support from organizations and individuals, the entire Party Committee, army and people of the district continue to overcome difficulties, achieve many important achievements, and stabilize people's lives. Up to now, after more than 10 years of building a new district, the average annual economic growth rate in the period of 2021 - 2024 reached 11.5%. By the end of 2024, the economic structure will shift in a positive direction: Industry - construction will reach 71.3%; agriculture - forestry - fishery will reach 14.9%; trade - services will reach 13.8%. Average income per capita will reach 53 million VND/person/year.
