Industries and localities determined to make breakthroughs in economic growth

DTO - The province has identified the acceleration and breakthrough to complete the socio-economic development plan for 2025 as having a particularly important significance. In addition to contributing to the completion of the goals and targets of the socio-economic development plan for the 2020-2025 period, achieving the growth target of 8.18% in 2025 will create a solid foundation for the province to enter a new development stage.

Vietnam Rice Company Limited (Truong Xuan Industrial Park, Thap Muoi District) accelerated production from the beginning of the year.

The Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee have issued action programs, decisions, plans and led the sectors and localities to implement them with the determination to achieve the economic growth target in 2025. According to the Department of Statistics of Dong Thap province, with the high determination of the entire political system, the consensus of the private business community and the majority of people in the province, in the first two months of the year, the province's economy had many highlights. For example, in terms of agricultural and aquatic production, the cultivation sector, the winter-spring rice planting area of ​​2024 - 2025 exceeded the plan, reaching 187,058/187,000 hectares as planned; the area of ​​flowers and short-term industrial crops reached 12,680 hectares, an increase of 129 hectares over the same period last year; the area of ​​fruit trees reached 44,943 hectares, an increase of 1,159 hectares; Aquaculture harvested over 82,400 tons, up 6.43% over the same period last year...

Regarding industrial production, the industrial production index (IIP) in the first two months of the year both increased, specifically, January 2025 increased by 1.43% compared to December 2024 and increased by 9.07% compared to January 2024; February 2025 increased by 1.37% compared to January 2025 and increased by 10.91% compared to February 2024; the cumulative index in the first two months of the year increased by 6.87% compared to the same period in 2024.

The long holidays and Tet in the first two months of the year have boosted the development of trade, tourism and services. Total retail sales of goods and consumer services in the first two months of the year reached VND24,721 billion, up 9.46% over the same period, of which the trade sector increased by 9.54%; hotels and restaurants increased by 10.53%; and tourism and travel increased by 2.66%. Import and export activities of goods and services continued to grow. In the first two months of the year, exports reached 364.75 million USD (up 7.03%), imports reached 106.05 million USD (up 18.04%), and the trade balance in the first two months had a trade surplus of 258.7 million USD.

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Director of the Department of Statistics of Dong Thap province said that, besides the advantages to promote economic growth in the first 2 months of the year, the province still has difficulties, which are: the market for consuming rice and fruits is difficult again (after the Indian market lifted the ban on rice exports); the price of consuming rice and durian has decreased sharply, affecting the lives and production of people; some industrial production sectors have difficulties in consumption, so production output has decreased (leather shoe production decreased by 82%, bottled beer decreased by 74.81%, canned beer decreased by 30.14%...).

To overcome difficulties and promote growth in the following months, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan proposed that the province needs to implement synchronous and drastic solutions. In addition to the Government's policy of purchasing rice for temporary storage, localities need to recommend farmers to produce high-quality varieties, ensure stable planting areas to maintain annual rice output of over 3.3 million tons; convert suitable plant varieties; develop and maintain the position of the aquaculture industry; support businesses in market information, labor supply, support access to preferential credit policies of the Government so that capital can penetrate the market; promptly complete the allocation of public investment capital, speed up the construction of key projects to put them into use soon; review and support the removal of difficulties for non-state investment projects by industry and field that are under-investment or have stopped investment, and resolutely recover slow-to-implement projects to avoid waste...

Implementing Resolution No. 25/NQ-CP dated February 5, 2025 of the Government on the growth target of industries, sectors and localities to ensure the national growth target in 2025 reaches 8% or more, with the mindset of innovating growth scenarios and having surplus, the province has built a growth plan for 2025 with the target of increasing by 8.18%, in which the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increases by 3.81%; the industry - construction sector increases by 12.3% (in which industry increases by 11.52%, construction increases by 15.99%); the trade - service sector increases by 9.36%. With the 2025 growth plan of 8.18%, it is a very heavy task. Every 1% growth in 2025 must increase by 655 billion VND in added value (at 2010 comparable prices) compared to 2024 (in 2024 with 1% increase of 613 billion VND) and more than 1,200 billion VND at actual prices.
