Striker Nguyen Tien Linh was not included in the list of 30 players selected by coach Philippe Troussier to prepare for the friendly match with Syria on June 20.

The list was selected by coach Troussier from 52 players of the national team and U23 summoned this time.
The 22 eliminated players will be sent back to their clubs and end the training session. In the national team, there are striker Nguyen Tien Linh (Binh Duong), midfielder Bui Van Duc (Ha Tinh), Trieu Viet Hung (Hai Phong), center back Bui Hoang Viet Anh (Hanoi FC) and Pham Xuan Manh (SLNA). The remaining players are U23 players.
Tien Linh is going through a difficult period, despite being the number one striker under coach Park Hang-seo. The captain of Binh Duong Club has only scored one goal since the beginning of the 2023 V-League season, and has recently been frequently benched by coach Le Huynh Duc. In the friendly match against Hong Kong 1-0 on June 15, coach Troussier also did not let Tien Linh play due to physical reasons.
In that match, Truong Tien Anh, Nguyen Hoang Duc and Doan Van Hau suffered different injuries but all recovered in time. In addition to the 21 players participating in the match at Lach Tray Stadium, Coach Troussier added six more players: goalkeeper Tran Minh Toan, defender Vu Van Thanh, Bui Tien Dung, strikers Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Van Toan and Nham Manh Dung.
The three U23 players called up include goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, midfielder Nguyen Thai Son and Nguyen Duc Phu. Previously, the four U23 players called up were defender Phan Tuan Tai, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Hoang Van Toan and striker Nguyen Van Tung.
The Vietnamese team arrived in Nam Dinh this afternoon and will practice at Thien Truong Stadium for two sessions before playing Syria.
Syria is currently ranked 90th in FIFA, five places higher than Vietnam. Their coach is Hector Cuper, the famous Argentine coach who led Valencia to the Champions League final twice in the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons.
