On the afternoon of February 26, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, the Goethe-Institut Ho Chi Minh City and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) held a press conference to provide information about the concert "Berlin Shines" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (1975-2025).

At the press conference, Mr. Le Ha My, Director of HBSO, said that the music night "Berlin Shines" opens a series of cultural, artistic and diplomatic events celebrating 50 years of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025.
Specifically, on the Vietnamese side, the program will have the participation of conductor Le Ha My and Meritorious Artist Pham Khanh Ngoc. On the German side, there will be singer Katharine Mehrling and pianist Ferdinand Von Seebach. Vietnamese and German artists will collaborate to perform songs by famous composer Kurt Weill.
Mr. Le Ha My added that the famous composer Kurt Weill was born in 1900 into a Jewish family. Kurt Weill began his career in Germany in the 1920s with much success. Kurt Weill's most prominent career mark was his collaboration with Bertolt Brecht - a German director who left a profound influence on the world stage in the 20th century - in the period 1927-1933, shaping a new musical style. Kurt Weill's works not only have artistic value but also are cultural heritage, continuing to have a strong influence to this day.
In addition to Kurt Weill’s compositions, music lovers will be treated to a duet between leading German stage artist, singer and composer Katharine Mehrling and Pham Khanh Ngoc – one of Vietnam’s leading opera artists – in the famous Vietnamese folk song Beo dat may troi. This harmony promises to bring a contemporary twist to familiar Vietnamese folk melodies.
This is also Katharine Mehrling's second performance in Vietnam, following the success of last weekend's performance at the Hoan Kiem Opera House, Hanoi, where she collaborated with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and artists from the capital.
According to Dr. Josefine Wallat, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, the concert “Berlin im Licht - Berlin Shines” not only affirms the power of music in connecting cultures, but also creates the premise for deeper cooperation activities between Germany and Vietnam, continuing to light up the friendship between the two peoples, contributing to building a world of peace, prosperity and mutual understanding.
The program will take place on the evening of February 28 at the City Theater.
