Hien Khanh improves the quality of child protection and care work

Hien Khanh Commune (Vu Ban) has 7 villages with a total population of 8,980, including 1,632 children under 16 years old; 561 children under 5 years old and 199 children under 2 years old. In recent years, along with local economic development, the Party Committee and the commune government have always focused on protecting and taking care of children's health through building a safe living environment, creating favorable conditions for children to develop comprehensively.

Every year, the Commune People's Committee develops a plan for child protection and care, and at the same time strengthens the Commune Child Protection and Care Board and the network of collaborators in the hamlets. To raise awareness and sense of responsibility of cadres and people to join hands in building a safe and healthy environment for children, the commune has promoted the dissemination of the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education on the commune radio system; sectors, unions, villages and hamlets integrate the dissemination of child protection and care content into meetings and activities; disseminate knowledge and skills to each family to protect children from the risks of abuse, violence and prevent accidents and injuries, especially drowning prevention in the summer. Primary and secondary schools organize propaganda for students on the basic contents of the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education; basic rights of children as well as obligations of children in the family and society; equip children with life skills, sex education, and prevention of sexual abuse.

The Commune People's Committee directs relevant agencies to fully implement policies and regimes for children, especially children in special circumstances. Currently, there are 12 disabled children and 12 orphans in the commune receiving state subsidies. Orphans, disabled children and children from poor households are regularly cared for by the Commune People's Committee, schools and organizations, such as tuition fee exemptions, gifts of books and school supplies, and creating favorable conditions for them to go to school. In line with the assigned tasks, the Commune Health Station synchronously and effectively implements health care and nutrition programs for children; propagates and guides mothers to raise healthy children, exploits available food sources in the family and how to prepare food suitable for the development needs of young children. Every month, the Commune Health Station organizes height and weight measurements for children of the right age. Children under 1 year old are fully vaccinated at a rate of 100%; Children from 6 to 36 months old are given vitamin A on June 1 every year; 100% of preschoolers, primary and secondary school students receive regular health check-ups. Thanks to this, the rate of malnourished children under 5 years old in the commune has decreased to only 12.54%; of which the rate of children with weight malnutrition is 11.55%; the rate of children with height malnutrition is 13.53%.

In addition to protecting and taking care of children's health, Hien Khanh commune also pays attention to taking care of the learning conditions and spiritual life of children by focusing on directing the implementation of building schools that meet national standards, mobilizing investment resources, and taking care of the education career. Schools are invested 2 billion VND to upgrade facilities, purchase learning and playing equipment. With attention to investing in facilities and teaching equipment, schools promote the emulation movement of good teaching - good learning. Hien Khanh Primary School and Secondary School are both recognized as meeting national standards. In the 2022-2023 school year, the percentage of 9th grade students at Hien Khanh Secondary School passing the graduation exam is 100%, the percentage of students passing the high school graduation exam is 95.1%. Along with being cared for in their studies, children in the commune also regularly participate in cultural, artistic, sports, and Youth Union activities. All 7 villages in the commune have a playground for children in the cultural house. Every year, the commune mobilizes people to participate in contributing to create more resources to care for children, such as organizing cultural and artistic activities, camping for children on the occasion of International Children's Day (June 1), Mid-Autumn Festival... On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival every year, the commune organizes autumn camping with many rich and exciting activities such as: parade, Team rites competition, art performances, folk games..., creating an attractive and useful playground for children.

In the coming time, along with the effective implementation of the Party and State's policies and regimes for children and children in special circumstances, Hien Khanh commune will continue to propagate and disseminate in the community about the work of protecting and caring for children; promptly request functional agencies to resolve policies for children in especially difficult circumstances according to regulations. Promote socialization, mobilize cadres and people to support the organization of activities and construction of works for children; continue to effectively implement the criteria of a commune suitable for children, build a safe and healthy environment, creating favorable conditions for children to develop comprehensively./.
