From the efforts, enthusiasm, responsibility and determination to effectively implement the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, those typical indigenous products have been enhanced in value, gradually affirming their brand position not only in the domestic market but also gradually reaching the international level, becoming "ambassadors" to promote the cultural quintessence of Nam Dinh land and people...
Leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development visited booths displaying and selling provincial OCOP products held in Nam Dinh city.
The 4-star OCOP products “Rươi field ecological rice” and “Toan Xuan 999 high-quality clean rice” of Toan Xuan Company Limited, Yen Luong Commune (Y Yen) are increasingly chosen by consumers for daily meals, even as meaningful and sincere gifts for relatives and friends. As someone who works hard in the fields, Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, Director of Toan Xuan Company Limited, understands very well each land area, rice varieties and farming practices of local farmers. Therefore, he and his colleagues decided to choose to grow rice mixed with raising rươi in the fertile land of the lower region of Nghia Hung District. The two specialty rice varieties of the homeland, Du Huong and ST25, which already produce fragrant and delicious rice, are now grown on rươi farming fields, making them even more delicious. Mr. Toan shared: “The connection between Toan Xuan Company Limited and farmers to grow rice on fields raising rươi brings “double benefits” to both farmers and businesses. In addition to the benefits from rươi, farmers have additional income from rice, while businesses have high-quality rice products, produced according to organic processes for processing, branding... to supply the market. “Rươi rice” has its own rich flavor but still retains the characteristic aroma of Du Huong rice, natural ST25. The company has researched and designed luxurious and beautiful packaging models that are very suitable for transportation and gift giving. This is a form of conveying and promoting the unique culinary culture of Nam Dinh people to consumers”. The 2024 crop season is the 4th year that Toan Xuan Company Limited has linked with cooperatives (HTX) and local farmers to grow rice on rươi fields. The total rice-worm cultivation area of the Company is more than 45 hectares in 3 communes of Nghia Lac, Nghia Hong and Nghia Phu (Nghia Hung). Mr. Tran Van Trung's family in Nghia Lac commune grows more than 2 hectares of Du Huong and ST25 rice on the field of the worm. Mr. Trung said: "This year's crop of rice in the field of the worm was purchased by the Company at the highest price ever, up to 16,000 VND/kg. In addition, growing rice on the worm field also creates a favorable living environment for the worm to develop, so the worm yield this year has doubled. With a good harvest of worm and high rice prices, we farmers are very excited and confident in the leadership and direction of the local Party Committee, government and the cooperation of enterprises. In the coming time, my family will continue to expand the rice cultivation area on the field of the worm to develop the family economy...".
The OCOP product “Rươi field ecological rice” is just one of 489 3-star and 4-star OCOP products of the province after 6 years of implementing the OCOP Program. Nam Dinh is assessed by the Central Steering Committee to be in the top of the country in developing OCOP products. Up to now, the OCOP Program is being actively and effectively implemented by localities in the province and developing an ecosystem of OCOP products that are both traditional and creative, not mixed with products of other localities. Comrade Nguyen Van Huu, Chief of the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office emphasized: "Nam Dinh has a variety of indigenous and unique products. Therefore, when implementing the OCOP Program, the province focuses on developing specialty products, advantages, products from traditional craft villages associated with exploiting local raw materials and indigenous culture and knowledge. Enterprises, production facilities, cooperatives, and individual households have focused on exploiting and developing areas of typical agricultural and medicinal materials, based on the advantages of natural conditions, culture, and production practices of the people. Now, whenever mentioning Nam Dinh, people not only talk about a "studious", humane land, rich in cultural and revolutionary traditions, but also remember OCOP products imbued with traditional cultural identity, imbued with cultural and spiritual values. That has added motivation for the subjects to continue to "revive" unique culinary cultures, affirming the OCOP brand of the rich Nam Dinh countryside...".
Mr. Vu Van Ky, Director of Hai Thinh Seafood Company Limited, Thinh Long Town (Hai Hau), said: "Tan Phu fish sauce" is the crystallization of the value of the hard work, diligence, and creativity of my family and local people for generations. Previously, the product was highly appreciated by the market and consumers for its quality, but was only consumed on a small scale. When the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the People's Committee of the district and town guided and supported brand building and achieved provincial OCOP standards; at the same time, the Company invested in upgrading designs, promoting products and diversifying direct sales forms, via the internet, social platforms zalo, tiktok, facebook... then "Tan Phu fish sauce" has expanded its consumption market and is known to consumers across the country. With a production scale of nearly 40 raw material fermentation tanks, each tank has a capacity of 6.5m3, on average, each month, the Company supplies the market from 700-1,200 liters of fish sauce. Focusing on implementing a clean production process, during the process of dipping, soaking, and fermenting, no preservatives or additives are used, so the product "Tan Phu Fish Sauce" always ensures quality, preserving the traditional flavor of the fish sauce essence. The fish sauce has a straw yellow color, salty on the tip of the tongue, rich in the mouth, sweet aftertaste and a protein content of 35N grams/liter; the selling price ranges from 80-160 thousand VND/liter. The company "prospered and made a living" thanks to OCOP products, creating jobs for dozens of local workers.
Expand domestic market share
Up to now, in stores and supermarkets in the province, OCOP Nam Dinh products are always displayed in prominent, visible positions and have become the "priority" choice of consumers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, representative of Thanh Nam Food Clean Food Supermarket (Nam Dinh city) shared: "Previously, customers often focused on buying and using imported or joint venture products. However, when the province directed localities to implement the OCOP Program, hundreds of agricultural and food products with clear, beautiful labels and packaging, with stamps to trace the origin of goods, recognized by specialized agencies, consumers gradually switched to OCOP products. From being promotional display goods, up to now, revenue from OCOP goods has accounted for more than 20% of the supermarket's food group revenue". At some supermarkets such as: Go!, Winmart, Co.opmart, agents, convenience stores... although not accounting for a large proportion, OCOP products in general and OCOP products of Nam Dinh province in particular have been widely sold, becoming one of the items that consumers are interested in and choose. It is worth noting that under the guidance of the competent authorities, With the potential, OCOP product owners have proactively invested, changed advanced technology, applied technical advances in management, saved indirect costs to improve product quality, diversified designs, increased product promotion... thereby building trust among consumers with pride in Vietnamese goods in general and OCOP Nam Dinh products in particular. Typically, shrimp paste and shrimp paste products of Hai Thinh Seafood Company Limited, Thinh Long Town (Hai Hau) are present in dozens of large and small supermarkets and 170 sales agents nationwide; green squash, water spinach, spinach, cabbage, cucumber products of Nam Cuong Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative, Yen Cuong Commune (Y Yen) are present in many stores and safe agricultural and food supply chains; high-quality rice products, organic clean rice of Toan Xuan Company Limited are present in all northern provinces; Nghia Binh fragrant Bac rice of Nghia Binh Agricultural Production - Service Cooperative, Quy Nhat town (Nghia Hung); Ogatea black ginger tea, Ogatea brain-nourishing blood circulation herbal tea bags, Ogatea artemisia herbal tea bags of Hai Hau Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, Yen Dinh town (Hai Hau)... have been sold in all convenience stores and clean agricultural product agents. Increasing export of OCOP products "made in Nam Dinh"
Participating in free trade agreements (FTAs), Vietnamese goods have been conquering global consumers. This is also an opportunity for our province's OCOP branded goods to "reach new heights". As one of the province's leading OCOP products, the product "Lenger Canned Clams" of Lenger Vietnam Seafood Co., Ltd. (Nam Dinh city) has just been awarded 92.9 points by the Provincial OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council in 2024. This is one of the first 3 products that the Provincial People's Committee directed departments, branches and Nam Dinh City People's Committee to support the subject in completing the dossier to submit to the Central Government for recognition as a national OCOP product. Promoting the strengths of the province with ASC-certified clam farming areas, the Company has gradually made efforts to improve quality and innovate designs to affirm its position in the field of aquaculture. Company Director Nguyen Ho Nguyen said: "Products processed from clean clams in Nghia Hung farming area not only have health care value, but also preserve the value of local natural resources. Therefore, the Company's products have become widely used seafood products in "difficult" markets with strict standards on food safety and hygiene. In 2024, through participating in fairs and trade promotion programs in a number of provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc... the Company's "Canned Clams Lenger" product has reached partners from Japan, China, the United States... This continues to be a potential partner opening up opportunities for batches of OCOP products "Canned Clams Lenger" of the province to be exported to this market. The dream of exporting OCOP products "made in Nam Dinh" is being realized when the production entity meets international quality standards...".
According to the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office, in 2024, the whole province has 122 products participating in the evaluation and classification of OCOP products at the district level; of which 98 products are recognized as 3-star OCOP products and 24 products have an evaluation score of 70 points or more. Up to now, our province has 489 OCOP products, of which 434 are 3-star OCOP products and 55 are 4-star OCOP products. Many OCOP products have been affirming their brand and quality, conquering the domestic market and some potential products participating in export to countries considered to be demanding markets such as: Rươi field ecological rice, Toan Xuan 999 high-quality clean rice, 888 high-quality clean rice of Toan Xuan Company Limited; Nghia Binh Northern sticky rice of Nghia Binh Agricultural Production - Business Service Cooperative, Quy Nhat town (Nghia Hung); Black bean sprout tea - Red rice sprout tea and Red rice sprout tea of Hanh Tam Production and Trading Company Limited, Nam Hung Commune (Nam Truc); Seasoned anchovy of Hung Vuong Seafood Company Limited, Giao Nhan Commune (Giao Thuy); An Hoa snails of An Hoa Agricultural and Aquaculture Cooperative, Hai Dong Commune (Hai Hau); Phuong Trang instant jellyfish of Quy Thinh Company Limited, Thinh Long Town (Hai Hau)...
To affirm their brand, position and aim for export, OCOP entities need to continue to improve the quality of their products, develop brands, trademarks, standards, quality, register codes, barcodes, and product traceability stamps. In addition, departments, branches and localities need to continue to support entities in applying technology and digital transformation in production and product marketing; at the same time, promote trade promotion activities, introductions... so that the province's OCOP products can be widely promoted and reach international standards.
