Sharing with VietNamNet , Mr. Ho Tuan Anh, Principal of Quynh Phuong Secondary School (Hoang Mai town, Nghe An) said that the total income of the school's teachers (excluding extra teaching outside the school) comes from the following items: Salary based on coefficient, seniority allowance (based on years of work); preferential allowance (30%); position allowance (if any); excess allowance (if any).
According to Mr. Tuan Anh, these allowances are also consistent for junior high school teachers nationwide, only the preferential allowance for the profession is different by region (30% for favorable regions; 70% for the most difficult regions).
In addition, teachers may have extra income from tutoring at school, but most teachers only teach Math, Literature, and English, and if they do, it's only a few dozen million VND extra per year.
“At my school, the lowest total income of a teacher is about 9 million VND, the highest is more than 22 million VND/month,” said Mr. Tuan Anh.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, Principal of Thai Thinh Secondary School (Dong Da District, Hanoi) said that the above income calculation formula is also applied at his school. Mr. Cuong gave an example, a newly graduated teacher receives: Basic salary coefficient of 2.34, preferential allowance of 30% with the current basic salary of 2,340,000 VND/month. Accordingly, the income calculation formula is as follows: Income = 2.34 x 2,340,000 + 30% x 2.34 x 2,340,000 = 7,118,280.
Or a teacher who has worked for 10 years and paid social insurance for 10 years will receive: a basic salary coefficient of 3.33; a preferential allowance of 30%, and a seniority allowance of 10%. Thus, the formula for calculating income is as follows: Income = 3.33 x 2,340,000 + 30% x 3.33 x 2,340,000 + 10% x 3.33 x 2,340,000 = 10,909,080.
Thus, according to Mr. Cuong, after deducting insurance contributions,... teachers at his school have a real income ranging from about 6.4 to 19.9 million VND. However, according to Mr. Cuong, teachers receiving an income of nearly 20 million are those who are about to reach retirement age.
The principal of a secondary school in Van Canh district, Hanoi shared: “Teachers’ income mainly comes from salaries and allowances. Some teachers who teach Math, Literature, and English can earn a little extra from extra teaching. The amount of money collected from extra teaching and learning organized in the school is not high. The lowest income of teachers in my school is 4.9 million VND, the highest, like me, is a grade I salary with 33 years of experience, but I only get 21 million VND. This is also a newly increased amount, before that, it was lower than my students who had just graduated and started working in businesses. In general, teachers’ lives are still difficult.”
Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hop, Principal of Dong Da High School (Hanoi) said that teachers' income in the school ranges from about 8 to 15 million VND/month.
A teacher at a famous high school in Hanoi shared: “According to my new salary table – a teacher with 15 years of experience, the total income is 11,231,000 VND. This is only for experienced teachers. Teachers who have just graduated and have been working for about 2-3 years have a hard time, probably only 3-4 million/month”. Therefore, according to this teacher, it is understandable that teachers find ways to teach extra classes outside of regular teaching hours at school.
The principal of a kindergarten in Hai Duong said that at his school, the highest salary for a teacher is only about 17.5 million VND/month. “This is the highest level and he only has 2 years left until retirement. There are only 2 people in the whole school who currently have this income level,” the principal said. The teachers with the lowest income are about 6 million VND/month.
However, due to Hai Duong province's own policy, preschool teachers are supported with an additional VND1 million/month, so the school's teachers' income ranges from VND7 million to VND18 million/month. "With low salaries, many teachers in the school find extra jobs to increase their income and support their families," he said.
Why did the Ministry of Education and Training remove the regulation on practice certificates from the draft Law on Teachers?
