Entering the new production season, across the fields, farmers in Quang Ninh are busy plowing the land, sowing, and enthusiastically working in production with the expectation of a good and productive crop.
Taking advantage of favorable weather, Mr. Vi Van Toan's family (Phong Du commune, Tien Yen district) is concentrating manpower to replant the acacia area that was damaged last year. Each person has a part to do, some dig holes, some put fertilizer, place trees... very quickly, more than 1,000 hybrid acacia trees have been newly planted. Mr. Toan said: My family has 3 workers, and we have borrowed 8 more relatives and neighbors. Planting acacia is most suitable when there is spring rain, moist soil, the trees will quickly take root, so the family is also taking advantage to complete the planting area.
This year, in the spring crop, Mrs. Pham Thi Xanh's family (Co To town, Co To district) planted more than 1 acre of TBR97 rice. According to Mrs. Xanh, this is a rice variety that is resistant to pests and diseases and has high yields. Last year, her family planted and had good yields, so this year they continued to choose to plant the spring crop.
The entire Co To district will plant about 90 hectares in the spring crop this year. To ensure a successful crop, farmers have increased care, covered seedlings to avoid wind, ensured good growth of seedlings, prevented pests and unusual weather changes. At the same time, they have carried out field sanitation, soil preparation, transplanting and plant care.
According to the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop production plan, the total annual crop planting area in the province is expected to be 32,853 hectares. Of which, the spring crop planting area is 24,825 hectares. Particularly, the province is expected to plant 14,440 hectares of spring rice, focusing mainly on high-yield and high-quality varieties such as Dai Thom 8, Thien Uu 8, TBR225... Up to now, the whole province has planted/sown more than 2,470 hectares, over 160 hectares of spring seedlings; 100% of the seedling area is covered with nylon. The goal is that by the first half of March, the whole province will basically complete the spring rice planting, and proceed to plant other crops in parallel.
In addition to planting and cultivating, farmers are also actively taking care of their existing crop areas. These days, Mr. Bui Van Dao's family (Quang Chinh commune, Hai Ha district) is actively weeding, fertilizing, and mounding the roots of nearly 300 sapodilla trees in his family. In recent years, thanks to the sapodilla growing model, his family has had an additional income of about 50-60 million VND. Mr. Dao said: For the trees that are bearing fruit, I take care of them and fertilize them periodically. For the new crop of trees that have not yet reached the fruiting stage, in addition to weeding, mounding, and pruning, I also have to remove flowers and young fruits to ensure the tree is nourished.
Along with planting and tending, in many localities, farmers are also actively working on irrigation, field sanitation, and dredging of intra-field canals to ensure irrigation.
Recently, nearly 200 farmers in Phong Coc ward (Quang Yen town) have gathered human resources, tools and means to cut grass, clear and clear main drainage axes, dredge and clear canals to serve agricultural production in the area. Mr. Vu Van Tri, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phong Coc ward, said: The launch of the irrigation campaign aims to contribute to protecting irrigation works, preventing floods and storms and serving agricultural production. In addition, this activity also contributes to raising people's awareness in protecting natural disaster prevention works, forming long-term habits of irrigation work and awareness and sense of responsibility in repairing and renovating irrigation works, intra-field canals, rural traffic, environmental sanitation, using water economically and effectively, and preventing water pollution.
