According to Mr. Tran Van Duan (Deputy Head of the Department of National Defense and Security Education, An Giang University), this subject already has a content template. However, the department's teaching staff innovates teaching methods, helping students to be more active in the learning process, such as: Organizing military games in the training ground, training grounds; students playing, singing, and participating in extracurricular activities in the evening...
“In addition, we integrate documentary screenings to supplement and open up the students to discuss and develop their knowledge in the lesson. This method creates attraction in the class, helps students understand, remember, and absorb the lectures easily, love the subject, and after graduation, have a better impression of the subject” - Mr. Tran Van Duan shared.
Attending the AK submachine gun shooting practice session, what impressed us was the fully prepared training ground and enthusiastic learning atmosphere shown through each movement of the students.
Luong Tran Ngoc Ty (class DH22MN Preschool Education) expressed: “Many students think this is a difficult subject, but I really like it because it is quite lively. The teacher teaches theory combined with visual models, extracurricular activities, and military games, helping us gain a deeper understanding of the history of the nation's struggle to build and defend the country; educates about pride and love for the homeland; and adds a lot of knowledge about national defense and security.”
Vo Thanh Dat (IT class DH22TH1) has had a congenital disability since childhood, so the school exempted him from taking the National Defense and Security Education course. But he still wants to study, and the school creates conditions for him to study according to his ability.
Dat confided: “This subject not only helps me understand deeply the functions and tasks of some organizations in the army and police, but also learn about team movements, commanding formations with voice commands, grenade throwing techniques, disassembling and shooting AK guns… Unfortunately, I cannot practice with my classmates, but I have more determination to try, have the right awareness, a healthier lifestyle, which will help me on the path ahead.”
Sharing his experience, Mr. Ha Hieu Thuan (subject lecturer) said: “In theory, like other subjects, we apply practical knowledge to make it easier for students to understand. In practice, we carry out 3 steps: Step 1, do it quickly so that students can think about the lesson; Step 2, do it slowly and analyze; Step 3, do it slowly so that students can grasp and practice. At the end of each training content, we conduct tests, evaluate, and draw lessons for the next training session. The form of theoretical and practical tests ensures objectivity, honesty, and high educational value, and calculates the average score of the subject like other subjects.”
The school always focuses on the form and content of national defense and security education, in accordance with the requirements of the education and training sector and the actual situation of the school, contributing to improving the quality and effectiveness of the subject. There are still many difficulties in terms of facilities, the school promotes internal resources, actively innovates, repairs, and supplements equipment and teaching aids. At the same time, sends lecturers to participate in formal training; selects lecturers with qualifications, health and training experience organized by the specialized sector.
Currently, the teaching staff directly teaching the subject of National Defense and Security Education actively research documents, promote a sense of responsibility, creativity, innovate teaching methods, and increase the application of information technology. In particular, they regularly educate students about the importance of the subject and the obligations of Vietnamese citizens in the process of protecting the Fatherland.
These specific and synchronous solutions have helped the work of national defense and security education change positively. For many school years, 100% of students have met the requirements, over 90% have achieved good and excellent results. Along with that, the school combines the national defense and security education program with extracurricular learning; encourages students to participate in the Summer Volunteer Campaign organized by the School Youth Union, helping them build their courage, determination, solidarity, and help each other to study better.

This is an important basis and condition for us to continue to innovate forms and methods, improve teaching quality, and contribute to the implementation of the goal of comprehensive education for students in the new situation, especially in the field of national defense and security,” affirmed Mr. Tran Van Duan.
