Project 8 is increasingly entering the lives of people in Trung Chai commune, Sa Pa town in a practical way; the role of women is increasingly enhanced in social life, they are present and participate in many local socio-economic development activities.
I arrived in Trung Chai commune, Sa Pa town on the day the Women's Union and other organizations organized labor to clean the roads in Vu Lung Sung village according to the plan. The work was clearly divided, and the organizations mobilized their members to participate. The most cheerful and lively voices were from the women's union members, some clearing grass, others quickly scraping dirt and rocks from the roadside to put them on a wheelbarrow, another woman pursed her lips and pushed the cart to the gathering place. While working, the women talked about the work contents implemented in Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children" in the village.
Ms. Ly Lo May, Head of the Women's Union of Vu Lung Sung village, said: The village has established a 10-member communication team to regularly organize propaganda activities integrated into village meetings, or activities, meetings of mass organizations and holidays on the contents of Project 8 on "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children. In particular, since the implementation of Project 8, Vu Lung Sung village no longer has child marriage."
Ms. Ly Liu May, a member of the Women's Union of Vu Lung Sung village, is excited because through the activities of the Village Communication Team, the villagers have gradually changed their thinking about gender equality and the role of women. Women have participated more in family economic development activities and other social activities.
Trung Chai commune has 7 women's associations in 7 villages with nearly 570 members. From December 2022 to now, with a core role, the Women's Association of the commune has coordinated with the Party Committee, local authorities and villages to establish 7 community communication teams, each team has 10 members including: Party cell secretary, village chief, front working committee, head of the women's association, youth union, farmers' association, police officer, prestigious people and enthusiastic people in the village... The commune has also established 2 "Leaders of Change" clubs at the commune's boarding secondary school and in Chu Lin 1 village. In addition, the Women's Association of the commune has also established zalo and facebook groups to propagate content related to Project 8.
Up to now, the Association has published more than 60 news and propaganda articles on zalo groups, facebook and through the commune's radio system. For the communication teams, every month they develop plans and determine propaganda topics for the people and women's union members. On the other hand, members of the team are also assigned to be in charge of specific household groups and proactively carry out their propaganda activities. Accordingly, each month, a related topic is selected such as: Prevention of early marriage and incestuous marriage; gender equality; prevention of drowning for children...
In particular, the propaganda activities to raise awareness of maintaining environmental hygiene, the Women's Union of the commune and the branches of each village organized to visit the members' homes to propagate and guide them in the direction of "holding hands and showing how to do things". Through directly helping to clean houses, clean livestock and poultry farms, step by step, helping the members' families to better understand the meaning of eating and living hygienically for human health. From there, they changed their thinking and doing in a positive way.
Ms. Ma Thi Tru, Chairwoman of the Commune Women's Union, assessed that with the close attention and direction of the local Party Committee, local authorities and the Steering Committee for National Target Programs of the commune; the close coordination between political and social organizations at the grassroots level, Project 8 is increasingly entering the lives of people in Trung Chai commune in a practical way. It can be clearly seen that the role of women is increasingly enhanced in social life, they have been present and participated in many local socio-economic development activities.
