Worthy of the title of world heritage On June 25, 2014, the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially listed the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex (Ninh Binh) as a World Heritage Site - the first mixed heritage of Vietnam and Southeast Asia. The outstanding global value of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized by the World Heritage Committee based on three criteria, namely cultural criteria, aesthetic values and geological and geomorphological criteria.

World Cultural and Natural Heritage Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is located in the southernmost part of the Red River Delta, about 90 km southeast of Hanoi. Located in the center of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Trang An Eco-tourism Area with an area of 2,168 hectares is a majestic and magnificent mountainous area created by the myriad of mountain shapes reflecting on the winding, meandering streams connecting hundreds of caves and wild, mysterious valleys. Despite the passing of time, the ancient capital still lies there peacefully, quiet but still majestic, a golden mark marking a heroic period of the nation. Hoa Lu was chosen as the first capital of the centralized feudal state when Dinh Bo Linh ascended the throne in 968.... Chosen as the capital of Dai Co Viet for a short time, this place has witnessed many events related to the fate of the whole nation, such as the careers of three consecutive dynasties: Dinh, Tien Le and Ly with historical marks. This land witnessed the heroic career of building and defending the country during 12 years of Dinh dynasty (968-980), 29 years of Tien Le dynasty (980-1009) and the beginning of Ly dynasty (1009-1010). With the terrain of overlapping hills surrounding the capital belt like a solid screen, along with the winding Hoang Long river, Hoa Lu became the political center, and at the same time the first imperial capital of our country. Before the fate and requirements of history, the capital was moved, but the ancient capital of Hoa Lu continued to be built with solid architectural works with temples, pagodas, shrines and has been preserved to this day. In the first 6 months of 2023, Ninh Binh welcomed more than 4.53 million tourists, 2.5 times higher than the same period last year; tourism revenue reached more than VND 3,846 billion, 2.9 times higher than the same period and reaching 74.7% of the yearly plan. In 2023, Ninh Binh province's tourism industry is expected to welcome more than 5.35 million visitors, with estimated revenue of more than VND 5,100 billion. Many craft villages such as Van Lam embroidery, Kim Son sedge mats, Phuc Loc carpentry, Bo Bat ceramics, Ninh Van stone, have had the opportunity to promote their strengths in consuming handicraft products to domestic and foreign tourists. Some other fields such as construction, printing and publishing, manufacturing, insurance, transportation, accommodation, retail, food services, finance ... have also benefited from this. In the tourist area, a large workforce has been transformed into boat rowers, souvenir sellers, photographers, tour guides, and staff in restaurants and hotels. 20 national and international tourist areas and destinations such as Trang An Eco-tourism Area, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Tam Coc - Bich Dong, Bai Dinh Pagoda ... The accommodation system has increased sharply with over 800 establishments. Typical examples include Legend Hotel, Hoang Son Hotel, Bai Dinh Hotel, Thung Nham resort, Tam Coc Garden... The bright spot on the Ninh Binh tourism map has been voted by many prestigious international travel sites. In 2020, Trips to Discover (USA) listed Ninh Binh in the list of 14 most attractive destinations in Asia. In 2022, Travel + Leisure Magazine (USA) ranked Ninh Binh in the list of 12 most beautiful filming locations in Asia. In 2023, Ninh Binh won the Traveller Review Awards, being the only representative of Vietnam in the top 10 friendliest destinations in the world. Forbes magazine voted Ninh Binh as one of the 23 most worth-visiting destinations in the world.

At the Conference on the implementation of the work of arranging administrative units at district and commune levels in the period of 2023-2030, Ninh Binh province set a goal of merging Ninh Binh city and Hoa Lu district with the orientation of "Ancient Capital - Heritage Urban Area", based on the cultural and historical values of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu and the outstanding global values of Trang An heritage; At the same time, complete the criteria for recognizing the new administrative unit after the merger as a type I urban area under the province, with the position of a regional and national tourism center, with global value, as a political - administrative, cultural, economic, educational - training, scientific - technological, high-quality service center, and international cooperation hub of Ninh Binh province.
