Black Thai women, once married, must tie their hair into a bun on top of their head, while White Thai women do not have this custom.

The blouse worn by women of the White Thai ethnic group has a V-shaped neckline, while the blouse worn by women of the Black Thai ethnic group has a round, standing neckline that fits snugly around the neck.

A complete traditional outfit for Thai ethnic women includes a short blouse (xửa cóm), a long blouse (xửa luông), a skirt (xỉn), a belt (xà yều), a headscarf (piêu), a conical hat (cúp), a brooch, and jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. The short blouse is tailored to fit snugly, with the hem just touching the waistband of the skirt, and features a row of silver butterfly-shaped buttons as an accent, showcasing the unique style of Thai ethnic women's clothing.

According to Thai folklore, the two rows of silver buttons on the two flaps of the traditional Thai dress symbolize the union of male and female, of the male and the female, to perpetuate the lineage.

The row of butterfly daisies on the left (male side) is called "to po" (male), and the row of daisies on the right (female side) is called "to me" (female). Thai people believe that the number of butterfly daisies should be odd to symbolize life, fertility, and abundance.

Traditional Vietnamese blouses are commonly worn in daily life and come in various colors such as white, indigo, blue, purple, and yellow.
