During the Lunar New Year, the consumption of OCOP products increased 3-5 times. To have enough supply for the market, units and entities with OCOP products in the province are actively producing and proactively sourcing goods.
Having achieved 3-star OCOP standards for its sausage products (also known as lap xuong) for many years, Dung Su production facility, Muong Khuong town (Muong Khuong district) has "scored points" with customers for its quality, diverse product designs and reasonable prices.
At the end of the year, at around 4 o'clock every day, Dung Su sausage factory starts production. Ms. Phung Kim Dung (owner of the factory) and dozens of workers follow a pre-determined production line to prepare ingredients, pre-process, marinate, stuff meat into pig intestines, divide into pieces, dry... For more than 20 years of making sausage, the family's smoked meat factory is always on fire.
According to Ms. Dung, to make quality and delicious sausages, the most important step is to choose the ingredients, and the pork must be very fresh. Therefore, every day, she personally goes to the meat suppliers to check the quality and ensure food hygiene and safety. Equally important are the steps of seasoning and monitoring the fire when drying, so she is often present at the production area to oversee and supervise all stages to ensure product quality.
In recent years, Ms. Dung's facility has invested in additional equipment and machinery to support production stages, helping products to be preserved longer and can be stored for a longer period of time, so the facility also produces throughout the year, not just focusing on the end of the year as before. Currently, on average, each month, the facility produces and supplies the market with about 200 kg of sausages and smoked meat; during Tet (from November to January of the following lunar year), it supplies 500 - 700 kg of products per month.
Muong Khuong sausage is a popular dish in winter, and is also a gift that many people choose to give to relatives during the holidays. Therefore, Tet is the time when this product is consumed the most, increasing 30-40% of output compared to normal days. In addition to Dung Su, Muong Khuong district currently has nearly 20 households and establishments producing and trading this product. Since the beginning of the 11th lunar month, the establishments have focused on production, producing quality products to promptly serve the market demand during Tet.
With the desire to bring Lao Cai farmers' royal banana and red banana products to markets outside the province, Ms. Do Thi Ha Van, Director of Fancy Farm High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative in Thong Nhat Commune (Lao Cai City) had the idea of producing dried bananas. In 2022, the Cooperative launched royal banana and red banana products, which are increasingly supported by customers. At this time, the production atmosphere here has also become more bustling to be able to deliver Tet orders to distributors in and outside the province in time.
Ms. Do Thi Ha Van, Director of the Cooperative, shared: From December to the Lunar New Year, our facility is always busy processing bananas to promptly supply to agents and consumers in and outside the province. At this time, on average, the facility produces about 500 kg of dried bananas per day, 4-5 times more than usual.
To ensure a source of raw materials for production, the cooperative has proactively sought raw material areas from Bao Yen, Bao Thang, Muong Khuong districts... When transported to the factory, bananas will be pre-processed and left to ripen naturally. When the bananas reach maturity, they will be peeled and put into a dryer without adding any additives. Thanks to that, the bananas ensure a natural flavor, so they are favored by customers and chosen as a product to eat, give, and present, especially during Tet.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has 269 OCOP products with 3 stars or more (of which 259 products have 3 stars, 8 products have 4 stars, 2 products have 5 stars), with 128 subjects.
OCOP food products (such as vermicelli, shiitake mushrooms, dried bamboo shoots, rice, wine, dried bananas, peanut oil, dried tea, oranges, grapefruits, fresh bananas and products processed from livestock, poultry, seafood...) of enterprises and production facilities have high consumption output during Tet.
With the "passport" of OCOP products, the affirmed quality has helped businesses in the province increase consumption and expand the market.
