Teaching children creativity, intellectual property and entrepreneurship from high school

Intellectual property education for high school students is an urgent need, not only helping them understand their rights and obligations, but also nurturing the spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship in the future.

On March 25, the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology organized a workshop with the theme " Sharing experiences in intellectual property education for high school students in Vietnam " in Hanoi.

Sharing at the workshop, Mr. Tran Le Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Intellectual Property - said that along with the trend of international economic integration and the strong development of science and technology, intellectual property increasingly affirms its important role in promoting innovation, improving technological level and national competitiveness.

"To develop the national intellectual property system in a synchronous and sustainable manner, the issue of intellectual property education for the young generation, especially from the high school level, is one of the necessary tasks.

This has been affirmed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and many countries have effectively implemented it, gradually forming an intellectual property culture in the community, thereby contributing to building a civilized and advanced society," Mr. Hong shared and commented that the issue of intellectual property education for high school students is a new issue, which has not been implemented systematically and regularly.

Therefore, the workshop with the participation of managers and education experts from ministries and sectors is expected to discuss together to propose a high-quality, highly specialized intellectual property education program for all levels of education.

According to research by WIPO experts, creativity peaks between the ages of 12 and 20, when young people realize their talents and develop interests in certain areas. That is why it is necessary to introduce innovation and intellectual property into school subjects early on to educate students.

Intellectual property combined with innovation and entrepreneurship

The team of experts has developed an intellectual property education program for young people, aiming to integrate it into general extracurricular activities.

Specifically, the intellectual property education program for high school students will be through scientific creativity lessons, product design exercises, STEM,... inspired by inventions and practical life. Then, intellectual property education will be integrated, educating children to analyze intellectual property rights related to products, educating children to know what intellectual property is, respecting creative products...

Then educate children on entrepreneurial skills in lessons from evaluating the commercialization potential of products, analyzing the market...

Experts assess that an intellectual property education program for high school students is an urgent need, not only to help them understand their rights and obligations, but also to foster a spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship in the future.

Sharing at the workshop, the representative of the General Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training) also highly appreciated the smart school model, a model that has educational significance in developing students’ capacity. Especially education on innovation, intellectual property and startup ideas...

"The number of high school students is very large, they will be the force for economic development of the country in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to promote students' creativity and comprehensive education to create a foundation for national development," he emphasized.

Mr. Hong also hopes that with the experience in intellectual property education at the workshop, education managers, teachers, and intellectual property experts will join hands to build a cooperative network to promote intellectual property education for the young generation of Vietnam.

Thereby contributing significantly to raising awareness and equipping intellectual property knowledge for high school students, thereby nurturing the thinking of future creators.
