The Vietnamese team defeated Laos 5-0 in the opening match of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup at Go Dau Stadium (Binh Duong) on the evening of March 25.
Speaking at the press conference, coach Ha Hyeok Jun shared: "First, I would like to congratulate the Vietnamese team on their victory. I know Vietnam is a strong team. And I am impressed with the way you deploy your tactics, not with any particular player."
Most of the Lao players are very young and are of age to participate in the 33rd SEA Games later this year in Thailand. "Is this how you prepare for the 33rd SEA Games?", the reporter asked.
The Korean coach replied: "The average age of the Lao team ranges from 21 to 22 years old. This is not really a preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, because I always choose the players with the best form even though they are very young. You saw this at the 2024 ASEAN Cup when we were one of the teams with the youngest squad in the tournament."
Assessing the level of Lao football compared to Vietnam after this match, coach Ha Hyeok Jun said: "From the first days working in Laos, I knew the gap between Lao football compared to Vietnam and other developed countries. I am still working to solve this problem."
"This time, we only have less than 10 days to work together. But I want to reduce the gap between Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. I still have time to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games," he added.
