The Hong Kong Education Bureau confirmed on March 23 that the incident occurred at the prestigious Queen's College in Causeway Bay, adding that the school was handling the case and had promptly notified relevant parties.

"The Department of Education reminded the school to handle the incident in accordance with current regulations and the school has begun an investigation," a Department spokesperson said, adding that the agency would provide necessary guidance and support.

Earlier, on March 22, Queen's College sent an email to teachers, students, and parents to notify them of a security incident in its information system. According to the email, an unauthorized individual accessed the school's eClass account and modified a student's disciplinary record, causing the disciplinary actions in the record to not match reality.

The school stressed that this was a serious issue and that the IT department was conducting a thorough investigation. In addition, additional measures would be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to SCMP , the eClass system - a teaching management, administration and internal communication platform established by Hong Kong - is currently used by more than 800 educational institutions.

Mr Francis Fong Po-kiu, honorary president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, recommends that teachers enable two-factor authentication when using eClass to enhance security.

“Two-factor authentication helps prevent password guessing. Additionally, it is important to set up an automatic logout feature after a certain period of time. This is especially important when teachers access the system in the school’s computer lab or library, helping to minimize the risk of hackers taking advantage,” Mr. Fong emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Personal Data Protection Commissioner of Hong Kong said it has not received an official notice from the school but will contact them to find out more information about the incident.

The principal of Phan Ngoc Hien High School (Nam Can District, Ca Mau Province) stated that the teacher who tutored students for 7 million VND to retake the literature exam was unreasonable and therefore was disciplined.
