Eliminate early admission but not consider academic records

A COMMON SCALE BETWEEN ADMISSION METHODS

Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Permanent Deputy Director of Duy Tan University, said that this year's admission regulations have some notable points such as eliminating early admission; considering transcripts using the results of the entire 12th grade year and the weighted score of the 12th grade year accounts for at least 25% of the total admission score; not limiting the admission combinations and the number of subjects in each combination... In particular, what needs attention is the regulation that schools must convert the common score scale between admission methods.

Adding to this new point, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, last year there were about 18 different admission methods. Therefore, this year the Ministry requires schools to use many methods but must convert them to a common score scale when considering admission. For example, a university uses 3 methods (reviewing transcripts, considering high school graduation exam scores, considering Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam scores), then this year all 3 methods must have a common score conversion formula.

With this change, Dr. Hai said: "Candidates will have more advantages when participating in the admission process, ensuring fairness for candidates between methods. There will no longer be a situation where a candidate with 27-28 points in the high school graduation exam fails to pass the exam, but another candidate with only 24 points is admitted with a transcript in the same major and school as last year."

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, Director of the Information and Communication Center of the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, noted that one of the important points of this year's admission regulations is to abolish early admission. Early admission is a concept used to refer to the admission stage that universities conduct before the high school graduation exam in previous years. This year, although early admission is abolished, schools still use the admission methods that were implemented in the early admission stage in previous years such as: considering academic records, considering scores of competency assessment exams, etc.

"Therefore, students need to pay close attention, not to mention that early admission does not mean eliminating the consideration of academic records or the consideration of competency assessment exam scores. At this point, after the Ministry of Education and Training announces the regulations, schools will have official information about the admission plan in the near future," Master Bich informed.

Master Cao Quang Tu, Director of Admissions at Saigon International University, also said: "This year's candidates need to pay attention to the phrase "no early admission". Early admission is canceled, but schools still use methods of considering transcripts, considering scores of separate exams... This year, if candidates participate in separate exams organized by universities, the results of these exams will be used for admission in the same round with other methods. At this time, candidates cannot apply for admission but must wait for the general admission time according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training".

Regarding the consideration of academic records, Master Truong Quang Tri, Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, also gave special notes on this admission method. According to Master Tri, a new point this year is that universities will use the academic scores of grade 12 for admission (while in previous years they may only use the academic scores of grades 10 and 11). Not only that, the regulations stipulate that the weight of the grade 12 score must be at least 25%. Therefore, students need to strive to achieve the best academic results throughout this final year of study. In addition, schools will have different admission methods based on academic records, students need to closely monitor the information of each school.

N MANY NEW ADMISSION COMBINATIONS

Also in the program, university representatives informed about the official admission method after the Ministry of Education and Training issued admission regulations.

According to Master Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, yesterday (March 25), Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance announced the official admission method for 37 training majors. The school still considers admission according to 4 methods including: considering high school study results of a combination of 3 subjects for the whole year of grade 12 from 18 points or higher; considering the average transcript for the whole year of grade 12 from 6.0 or higher; considering high school graduation exam scores; considering the scores of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment exam or the V-SAT exam scores. Regarding the subject combination for admission, all majors are guaranteed to have literature or math.

Similarly, Master Nguyen Tran Ngoc Phuong, Director of Marketing and Brand Development of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that next week the school will announce the official enrollment plan. Compared to the expected information, the official information has not changed much. Specifically, the school will consider admission based on the high school graduation exam scores; consider the scores of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam and the V-SAT exam; and consider the academic transcript scores.

Master Truong Quang Tri also informed about the official admission methods of Nguyen Tat Thanh University including the 2025 high school graduation exam scores; considering the transcript scores; considering the combination of transcript scores with the high school graduation exam scores or the competency assessment exam scores or the high school graduation exam scores; considering the competency assessment exam scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi National University and the specialized competency assessment exam scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. The school also adjusted the admission subject combinations, including new admission majors of the 2018 General Education program such as: technology, information technology... In addition, the school has 3 new majors including: mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering and digital economics.

Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that Duy Tan University's admission method has many new subject combinations to help students of the 2018 General Education program conveniently apply. For example, the subject of economic and legal education is in the admission combination for the business management and economics majors; the subject of information technology is in the admission combination for the computer and IT field; the subject of fine arts is in the admission combination for gifted majors...

Master Cao Quang Tu also said that this year's admission regulations remove the regulation that a major can have a maximum of 4 admission combinations - this opens up diversity in admission combinations for majors of schools.

Master Nguyen Ba Anh, Deputy Director of Gloucestershire Vietnam, said that this year, there will be 7 training programs. Specific admission methods include: considering high school graduation exam scores; transcript scores based on the total score of 3 subjects for the entire 12th grade year; average score for the entire 12th grade year; scores from the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam or V-SAT exam scores.
