The Organizing Committee awarded 30 Vu A Dinh scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, to ethnic minority students. At the same time, 200 scholarships were awarded to the "For Beloved Hoang Sa and Truong Sa" Club, each worth 1 million VND. Of these, 88 scholarships were given to students who are children of fishermen in difficult circumstances in 6 districts: U Minh, Tran Van Thoi, Dam Doi, Nam Can, Ngoc Hien and Phu Tan; 12 scholarships were given to students of charity classes in Hon Chuoi and 100 scholarships were given to children of border guards.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tran Chau, Permanent Deputy Director of Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, Deputy Head of the "For Beloved Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" Club, hoped that these scholarships would be a practical source of encouragement, helping the children to go to school, helping them have more conditions to study, practice and improve in life.
The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund was established in March 1999 specifically for ethnic minority students with difficult circumstances and excellent academic performance. The "For Beloved Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" Club was established in 2014, with the aim of taking care of students, children of fishermen, and children of border guards who are day and night performing the task of protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.
Since then, tens of thousands of scholarships have been awarded to disadvantaged ethnic minority students in mountainous, border and island areas across the country. In Ca Mau alone, over the past 10 years, more than 1,200 disadvantaged students have received the above two scholarships.
