Speaking at the event, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized: Looking back at the development path over the past years, we can be proud that Vietnam has made great strides in international rankings. According to the Global Innovation Index (GII) Report of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2024, Vietnam is currently ranked 44/133 countries, maintaining its leading position in the group of lower-middle-income countries. Over the past 10 years, Vietnam's ranking has increased by more than 30 places, a clear demonstration of the determination of the Party, State and business community in promoting science, technology and innovation.

Science, technology and innovation have been playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country. In key areas such as agriculture, construction, health, education and industry. Science, technology and innovation are not only the main driving force to improve productivity and sustainable growth, but also help create new business models, enhance the competitiveness of enterprises and countries in the international arena.
Hanoi is not only the political center but also a bright spot for science, technology and innovation in the region. With important steps in building the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi has attracted more than 300 investment projects in high-tech fields, with a total registered investment capital of more than 8 billion USD.
In addition, Hanoi has pioneered in developing smart urban areas, integrating AI technology, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) into urban infrastructure, transportation, and healthcare management, contributing to creating breakthroughs in the city's competitiveness.
The event "Connecting Technology and Innovation in Vietnam 2024" was held in Hanoi, with the theme Promoting Innovation - Driving Force for Fast and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development, which is one of the oriented activities of the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote the application, transfer of technology and innovation for industries, organizations and enterprises in Hanoi in particular and the whole country in general, thereby improving productivity, quality and competitiveness of enterprises' goods, creating conditions for scientists to apply their results to production and business, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
With the desire to further promote the effectiveness of technology application, transfer and innovation, bringing added value and contributing to promoting socio-economic growth, the Ministry of Science and Technology hopes to continue receiving the coordination of departments, ministries, branches, localities, businesses and scientists nationwide to focus on implementing the following key tasks:
Firstly , strengthen coordination to enhance connectivity and unity in the strategic vision of developing an innovation system in which enterprises play a central role; university research institutes are strong research subjects; promote the socialization of investment resources for science, technology and innovation, especially resources from enterprises.
Second , strengthen coordination and allocate appropriate resources to focus on implementing support solutions, encourage businesses to improve their technology absorption capacity and promote technological innovation activities, considering this as one of the key solutions so that each business, each industry and the whole economy can improve labor productivity.
Third , implementing solutions to develop a synchronous, effective and integrated science and technology market: strengthening close links between producers, enterprises, localities and research units, and mobilizing various resources (domestic and foreign) to support the application, transfer of technology and innovation in enterprises; Expanding technology supply-demand connection activities to a number of developed countries to enhance technology transfer, mastery and development from abroad to Vietnam in priority sectors and fields.
Fourth , it is necessary to focus on building and perfecting the legal system on science, technology and innovation, especially the projects to amend and supplement the laws included in the law and ordinance building program of the Government in this term, ensuring the goal of reforming administrative procedures, forming a favorable and synchronous legal environment, removing difficulties and obstacles, and creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to operate in science and technology.

Assessing the results achieved in the past time, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Le Hong Son said: In the first 9 months of 2024, Hanoi has achieved many achievements in socio-economic development. The city's GRDP growth rate reached 6.65%, affirming its role as the economic, political and cultural center of the country. Labor productivity increased remarkably, reaching 3,209 million VND/worker, 1.6 times higher than the national average. The contribution of total factor productivity (TFP) to Hanoi's GRDP growth increased gradually every year.
Hanoi is home to more than 70% of the country’s scientific and technological organizations, universities, research institutes and 82% of the country’s laboratories (including 14 national key laboratories), with more than 65% of the country’s leading scientists living and working there. The city identifies this as a particularly important advantage for the capital to focus on investing in the development of science, technology and innovation.
From 2021 to present, Hanoi has been implementing nearly 300 tasks under 9 city-level science and technology programs and intellectual property development programs. Research results are applied to practice at a high rate, pilot production projects apply 100% of the results of topics and projects are applied immediately at about 90%. The number of applications, industrial property certificates, and international publications in Hanoi always leads the country.
Vietnam Technology and Innovation Connection 2024 is organized on a national scale, including many specialized activities on technology and innovation; focusing on areas that are attracting the attention of society and businesses, with the participation of ministries, branches, localities, large enterprises, research institutes, universities, organizations and individuals at home and abroad.
The event will attract 2,500 to 3,000 in-person attendees and 7,000 to 10,000 online attendees, along with a large-scale technology demonstration space.
