On March 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department received and rescued a Burmese kite, voluntarily handed over by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung (in Tan Hung ward, District 7).
Mr. Tung said that on March 17, he went to visit an acquaintance in Xuan Loc district (Dong Nai province). At that time, a large bird with a wingspan of about 1 meter swooped down to the corn field and caught a snake weighing about 0.5 kg.
Mr. Tung's acquaintance discovered it and approached to pull the snake away, but the bird did not let go of the snake. At that time, Mr. Tung's acquaintance caught the bird and put it back in a cage.

Mr. Tung then asked for the bird to take home and learn that it was a Burmese buzzard listed in the Red Book, so he contacted the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department to hand it over. "I hope the bird will be taken care of and released into the wild," said Mr. Tung.
Upon receiving the bird and taking it in for care and rescue according to regulations, forest rangers from the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department initially identified it as a Burmese kite, scientific name Spilornis cheela , a female bird, weighing about 1.4 kg, belonging to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.
The ranger said the Burmese buzzard is a bird of prey. The ranger said the bird had quick reflexes when searching for food.
