Recently, Tatler Asia included Hue, Vietnam, in its list of "underrated culinary cities in Asia".
As the leading online platform dedicated to celebrating the best of Asia, Tatler Asia shares that when it comes to delicious Vietnamese dishes, most foreign visitors only know about pho and banh mi because they are very popular in big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
However, Tatler Asia emphasizes that Hue is also a particularly impressive destination in Vietnam, with a unique royal cuisine and many local specialties such as Hue beef noodle soup, banh beo or hen rice.
Bun bo Hue is a dish often eaten by locals for breakfast. The broth is made from pork and beef bones combined with many typical spices such as lemongrass, fish sauce and lime juice.
Another specialty that is especially famous in Hue is banh beo. This dish has a shell made from rice, ground into a fine powder, soaked in water to make it sticky, then mixed with a little fat. Then, the maker pours the powder into small bowls so that the cake has thin slices like water fern wings, and steams it. When the cake is cooked, the filling is added and it is eaten with dipping sauce.
Tatler Asia also suggests that visitors can add roasted peanuts or fried onions to the cake to enhance the flavor.
Mussel rice is a dish loved by Hue people and tourists because of its extremely attractive flavor.
In addition to Hue in Vietnam, the list of 8 underrated culinary cities in Asia also includes Fukuoka (Japan), Ipoh (Malaysia), Iloilo (Philippines), Gwangju (South Korea), Hualien (Taiwan, China), Surabaya (Indonesia) and Luang Prabang (Laos).
