Recently, in the ranking of the 100 best sandwiches in the world by Taste Atlas, Vietnamese cuisine was honored with many familiar names.
With 4.6/5 stars, Vietnamese bread ranked 2nd in the list of 100 best sandwiches in the world (Top 100 sandwiches in the world), announced by Taste Atlas in mid-January.
This site praises banh mi as a "heritage" of Vietnamese cuisine. Taste Atlas notes that Vietnamese banh mi has different fillings in each region, but the common point is that they are all sandwiched in crispy golden French baguettes.
The French brought the baguette to Vietnam in the 20th century, but it was the creativity and variation of the people here that made this dish famous all over the world.
The most popular version of the sandwich is filled with pork liver pate, served with pork sausage, shredded pickled carrots, coriander, sauce, and a few other ingredients. You can also find sandwiches with grilled meat.
The crispy crust and fresh ingredients in the filling will bring diners an unforgettable experience.
Two other Vietnamese versions of banh mi also made the top 10 of this list. The meat sandwich ranked 4th with 4.5/5 stars and the roast pork sandwich ranked 5th with 4.5/5 stars.
Commenting on the meat sandwich, Taste Atlas said that this is the version most known to tourists. The famous culinary advice site suggests that tourists can buy meat sandwiches and roasted pork sandwiches from street stalls in Vietnam and enjoy them at any meal of the day.
However, this page also notes that diners should not try to cram too many types of fillings at once to ensure full enjoyment.
Previously, Vietnamese bread was honored many times by Taste Atlas . In February 2023, the culinary site announced the 50 best street foods in the world, in which Vietnamese bread ranked 6th.
Founded in 2015, Taste Atlas (headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia) is known as a map that brings together traditional dishes from around the world.
According to Matija Babić, founder of Taste Atlas, the food and beverage rankings are based on opinions and reviews from experts and food critics to ensure the reliability of the awards.
