Join hands to save electricity to overcome difficulties

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên10/06/2023

As reported by Thanh Nien , the Electricity Regulatory Authority (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that hydropower accounts for a large proportion of the electricity supply in the North, at 43.6%, but many large hydropower reservoirs are currently lacking water. Currently, only Hoa Binh hydropower reservoir still has water in the lake and can maintain electricity generation until around June 12-13.

People in many areas of Hanoi struggle to cope with hot weather when there is a power outage.

According to Mr. Ngo Son Hai, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), currently, the available capacity of the power system in the North is only over 17,000 MW. Meanwhile, the demand for electricity consumption is over 20,000 MW. Therefore, EVN must reduce the capacity used at the peak time by about 30%. If calculating the average electricity output for the whole day, the reduction is at 6 - 10%, depending on whether the day is cool or hot.

Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, General Director of EVN, said that from now until water flows to hydroelectric reservoirs, EVN will try its best to ensure safe electricity operations. Mr. Nhan said: "In the context of insufficient demand, there are times when we have to reduce electricity, EVN hopes that people will sympathize with this difficulty."

Saving should be a habit

"Currently, power outages are a concern for many people. Every time there is electricity, people "suddenly feel happy". In this hot weather, sudden power outages not only affect business and production but also affect sleep, meals and production. Hopefully the electricity shortage will be resolved soon", reader (BD) Bac Ta Hong shared.

Sharing the same opinion, BĐ Duc Doan added: "Electricity is like blood. Many businesses are affected. People's lives are affected, which also affects the next day's labor productivity."

Talking about saving electricity, BĐ X.Binh Nguyen expressed: "It is not only when there is a difficulty with electricity that we have to save, but we should practice the habit of saving at all times. Use when necessary, do not use when not necessary, to avoid waste. In the difficult situation of electricity, especially in the hot season, many places have power outages, we must know how to share with everyone to save electricity".

Also talking about saving, BĐ Hoang Minh expressed: "I fully support the Prime Minister's signing of the directive on June 8 on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023 - 2025 and the following years. As a worker myself, I really appreciate the sentence "Disseminating and thoroughly implementing electricity saving to all workers, including electricity saving in the criteria for evaluating the level of task completion, compliance with internal discipline and annual emulation and rewards". I hope everyone will join hands to save electricity".

More power supply needed soon

That is the opinion of many investors. Investor Khanh Duy 5000 suggested: "In my opinion, we should create favorable conditions in terms of procedures and mechanisms for wind power and solar power to develop domestically to create jobs for people and businesses... The richer they are and the more they pay taxes, the more they will help the country develop". Investor Bui Duc Minh Son also said: "Our country still has a lot of potential for wind power and solar power. Many areas already have wind turbines, why not connect them to the national grid to increase the ability to supply electricity?".

Sharing the same opinion, BĐ Vin said: "There are no new instructions for people who want to install solar power for self-consumption. In this situation, we should continue to allow solar power installation only for households, which would save the government a lot. My family has been using solar power for the past 4 years, and it feels very stable and comfortable."

BD Nguyen Duy Thanh1977 commented: "I think there needs to be a long-term solution, for example: investing in preferential loans for households and businesses to install solar power systems in installments based on revenue from the electricity output they sell back to EVN on the national grid. That way, people may have to invest little or no initial capital with a large amount of money, and we will gradually stabilize the source of electricity."

Meanwhile, talking about power outages, many agencies suggested that sudden power outages should be minimized and that advance notices should be given so that people can proactively arrange their work and daily activities. Agency Rose Phuc warned: "Sudden power outages can cause people to be stuck in elevators, which can be life-threatening, because they cannot call for help, or they suffocate..."

* Producing electricity requires the use of natural resources (gas, coal, hydropower...) so it is necessary to use them economically.

* Should connect wind power, solar power to the grid or EVN must proactively add more power generation sources...

* There should be specific announcements for each area and cut-off time so that people can proactively do their work.
