Kinhtedothi - On the afternoon of January 26, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited and worked with the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee; visited and presented Tet gifts to families of policy beneficiaries, people with revolutionary contributions, and disadvantaged households in Can Tho City.
Also attending the gift-giving ceremony were Party Central Committee member, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Do Thanh Binh; Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Thai Thu Xuong; Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Viet Truong; representatives of the leaders of the People's Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City.
Accordingly, the National Assembly Chairman presented 500 gifts to policy families, outstanding revolutionary contributors; poor households in especially difficult circumstances; and workers and laborers in difficult circumstances. Each gift is worth 1.3 million VND (including 1 million VND in cash and a gift worth 300,000 VND).
Reporting to the working delegation, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien said that the city has directed all sectors and levels to focus on taking care of the Lunar New Year 2025. Currently, Can Tho City has about 40,000 policy families, people with revolutionary contributions, and relatives of martyrs; more than 1,300 children in especially difficult circumstances; and more than 13,200 enterprises with nearly 620,000 workers.
With the motto "All union members and workers have Tet", Can Tho City's trade unions at all levels have organized many activities to take care of Tet for union members and workers, with a total budget of more than 36.9 billion VND. Up to now, the city has built and repaired 665 houses for the poor with a total budget of 38.6 billion VND. In addition to gifts from the Central Government, Can Tho City has spent more than 70 billion VND from the city budget to give 66,860 gifts to policy families, meritorious people, relatives of martyrs, the elderly, poor households and social protection beneficiaries.
Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man acknowledged and highly appreciated the remarkable achievements that Can Tho City achieved in 2024, especially the work of taking care of Tet for the people.
The city has done many good things in promoting the role of the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to mobilize many resources to care for the poor and near-poor. Can Tho is currently a locality with a low poverty rate in the Mekong Delta.
At the same time, the National Assembly Chairman requested the city leaders to continue to review and well implement Directive No. 40-CT/TW of the Secretariat "on organizing the Lunar New Year 2025", pay attention to taking care of Tet for policy families, poor households, people in difficult circumstances, workers; ensure political security, social order and safety in the area during Tet; pay attention to environmental sanitation issues to attract tourists to Can Tho to enjoy Spring and celebrate Tet.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent wishes of health, happiness and prosperity to all leaders, cadres, families of meritorious people, workers, laborers and people of Can Tho City on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
On the same afternoon, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Central Working Delegation visited and worked with the Can Tho City Military Command; Binh Thuy District Party Committee, and Can Tho City Central General Hospital.
