On March 20, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received US Senator Steven David Daines.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the reception, General Secretary To Lam welcomed Senator Steven David Daines on his first visit to Vietnam, saying that the visit is of great significance, contributing to promoting the good development of Vietnam - US relations.
The General Secretary affirmed that the US is one of Vietnam's leading important partners, welcoming the US to continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, supporting Vietnam to be "strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous".
General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the development of bilateral relations over the past 30 years, saying that the Vietnam-US relationship is a model in international relations.
The General Secretary acknowledged the good results achieved since upgrading the framework of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, from politics, diplomacy, economics, trade and investment to education and training, culture and people-to-people exchange.
The General Secretary outlined a number of orientations to promote the potential of the relationship between the two sides in the coming time. Economy, trade and investment should continue to be important pillars of bilateral relations, continuing efforts to resolve the consequences of war, expanding and strengthening cooperation in areas where the US has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as science and technology, innovation, energy, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.

The General Secretary expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the US Congress and the Republican and Democratic Parties for supporting the development of bilateral relations, and asked Senator Steven David Daines to continue supporting and promoting cooperation between the two sides to continue to develop harmoniously, sustainably, effectively and more substantially in the coming time.
Senator Steven David Daines sincerely thanked General Secretary To Lam for taking the time to receive the delegation, expressed his impressions and congratulated Vietnam on its development achievements in recent years.
Senator Steven David Daines recalled the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump right after Trump was elected President in November 2024, assessing that the phone call affirmed President Trump's message of valuing relations with Vietnam and Vietnam's priority position in the Trump Administration's strategy for the region.
Senator Steven David Daines agreed with the General Secretary's orientations on bilateral relations, emphasizing the desire to strengthen bilateral relations in all areas, especially economics, trade, including agricultural products, and energy cooperation.
The Senator thanked the Vietnamese law enforcement forces for their cooperation in drug prevention efforts, especially the synthetic drug fentanyl; and looked forward to continued cooperation with Vietnam in this field as well as in preventing illegal migration.
The Senator affirmed that he will soon convey General Secretary To Lam's greetings and regards to President Donald Trump and continue to contribute to the development of Vietnam - US relations in the coming time.
