Meeting with a delegation of outstanding health sector officials nationwide on the morning of February 26 at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong emphasized the need for appropriate policies to attract, preserve, and promote the dedication and devotion of medical staff, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas.
The meeting of exemplary cadres who are Labor Heroes, People's Armed Forces Heroes, People's Physicians, professors, scientists, outstanding doctors and pharmacists on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025. The report of Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan at the meeting said that throughout the process of formation and development, the Vietnamese health sector has constantly strived, overcome challenges, developed strongly and achieved many important achievements. Up to now, the health system has been comprehensively expanded, covering all regions of the country, the health insurance coverage rate in 2024 is 94.2%. From a shortage of both human resources and facilities in the early days of its establishment, the health network has now developed widely, with more than 13,000 health facilities from central to local levels. Basic health services have now reached all people, including the most difficult areas, such as remote areas, border areas and islands; remarkable advances in preventive medicine have helped control and eliminate many dangerous epidemics; major hospitals across the country have mastered many advanced medical techniques. The health sector has proactively integrated internationally, expanded cooperation and enhanced its position in the international arena.
Presenting flowers to congratulate the health sector, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President cordially sends to the leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of Health; professors, associate professors, doctors, doctors, cadres and staff of the health sector nationwide through the periods; relatives of heroes and martyrs his warm feelings, respectful greetings and best wishes.
Recalling the advice "A good doctor must be like a mother" of beloved Uncle Ho in the letter sent to the Conference of health sector officials 70 years ago, the President affirmed that it is the guideline for all actions, the precious baggage of Vietnamese doctors throughout the process of serving the Fatherland and the people.
The President stated that, imbued with his profound teachings, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, with the efforts, solidarity and struggles, over 70 years of construction, development and accompanying the country, the Vietnamese health sector has achieved many great achievements, leaving profound impressions. We are proud of our widespread health system, ensuring that everyone from urban to rural areas and remote areas have access to health care services; expanded immunization programs; prevention and control of diseases such as malaria, polio and tuberculosis have helped significantly improve the quality of life and average life expectancy of the Vietnamese people.
Along with that, the health sector has also reached out to integrate internationally, research, invent and master many advanced medical techniques and technologies. Major hospitals across the country have successfully performed many organ transplant surgeries, treating serious diseases with modern technology, making Vietnam a bright spot in the medical field of the region. In particular, in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the medical team has truly become the pioneers, and the core force, fighting selflessly to protect the health and lives of the people.

The President affirmed that the outstanding medical staff at the meeting represented thousands of exemplary role models, heroes and martyrs of the health sector nationwide; they were "mothers" who not only had a benevolent heart and kind heart, but also had a strong will, determination, endurance, perseverance, and resilience, and excellently fulfilled their tasks, contributing significantly to the struggle for national liberation and reunification in the past, as well as to the cause of building and firmly defending the beloved Vietnamese Fatherland.
Pointing out that health care for the people is a priority in the socio-economic development strategy of our Party and State, the President requested the health sector to continue focusing on developing a universal health care system, ensuring that all people, whether in urban or rural areas, remote or isolated areas, border or island areas, have access to basic health services; focusing on improving the quality of specialized health care, investing in the development of central and provincial hospitals, focusing on mastering modern medical techniques and technologies, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, aiming towards international health standards.
Along with that, the President requested to accelerate digital transformation in the health sector, apply information technology in management and provision of health services, deploy remote medical examination and treatment models, contributing to improving efficiency, saving costs and creating favorable conditions for people. Continue to focus on building a high-quality medical workforce, paying special attention to improving the quality of training and fostering medical staff in both expertise and medical ethics, ensuring that medical staff are both professionally skilled and highly responsible, always devoted to patients, and at the same time have reasonable policies to attract, maintain, promote the dedication and devotion of medical staff, especially in remote areas, where there are many difficulties and shortages.
Continue to focus on building a high-quality medical workforce, paying special attention to improving the quality of training and fostering medical staff in both expertise and medical ethics, ensuring a medical workforce that is both professionally skilled and highly responsible, always devoted to the patient.

On this occasion, the President conferred the title of “People’s Physician” on 46 outstanding physicians in the health sector. This is not only a source of pride for the individuals honored but also a recognition of the great contributions of the health sector over the past time, and a motivation for the medical team across the country to continue to overcome difficulties and perform their duties better.
