That is the bread cart of Truong Thi Thao Ly (36 years old) and her husband located in the peaceful alley 283 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City). Every morning, the bread cart is supported by a large number of customers, one after another waiting to buy.

The "one of a kind" secret

Before that, I accidentally learned about Thao Ly and her husband's bread cart when a friend who is a magician from Hanoi came to Ho Chi Minh City for work and accidentally bought bread here. My friend has been a vegetarian for many years and has endless praise for this bread shop:

The bread here is so delicious, I wonder how they make it? It's different from the places I've eaten. When I go back, I'll definitely buy some to bring back to Hanoi for my mom...

Ms. Ly's bread cart is crowded in the morning.

Hearing this, I was really curious and wondered what it was about a bakery in Ho Chi Minh City that made such a special impression on a Hanoian. That was also the reason I asked for the address, and one morning early in the week, I went to eat Ms. Thao Ly's bread.

At the beginning of the week, there are many customers, especially during the "rush" hours when people go to work and conveniently stop by to buy a breakfast to fill their stomachs. The owner sells from 6am to 10:30am, at noon, the customers lessen, which is also the time when she has time to chat with me.

Her husband would have been selling with her today as usual, if he hadn’t had an emergency. The first thing that impressed me when I arrived here was the beautiful owner who always smiled and talked warmly to customers. I could hardly imagine that she was 36 years old, because of her youthful appearance.

“If you told me you were 24 or 25, I would still believe you!” I started the conversation, and the owner smiled brightly. Ly said that after graduating from college, she worked as an accountant for 5 years. Then she got married. He opened a hair salon, and she worked as a makeup artist to support her family and raise 2 children.

Each loaf of bread costs 20,000 VND.

She opened this sandwich cart more than a year ago, in front of her and her husband's hair salon, with the hope of earning more income to cover family expenses, support her parents in the countryside, and bring her dedicated vegetarian dishes to customers. Luckily, from the very first days, many customers came to support her.

“At first, I went to many well-known vegetarian sandwich shops to see how they made it. Then, in addition to the basic ingredients of pork skin, sausage, pickles, raw vegetables, pate, etc. in a sandwich, my family and I also came up with a special ingredient called braised pork ribs (made from vegetarian barley ribs), made according to a special recipe to create something unique for ourselves," she shared.

2 husband and wife are vegetarians

Not everyone knows that Ly and her husband have been vegetarians for 12 years. They said they got married and bonded together, partly because they both ate vegetarian food. The owner confided that except for her two children, her entire family, including her husband, her husband, and her parents in Da Nang, are vegetarians.

“My family and I are vegetarians not for any lofty purpose, simply for health, because of changes in perception and perspective that make me not want to eat meat anymore. I am happy because every day I bring my dedicated vegetarian sandwiches to customers who come to support me," she added.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy (30 years old) and her colleagues stopped by Ms. Ly's noodle cart, saying that they have been "regular customers" here for more than half a year. Living in Thu Duc City but working in District 10, Ms. Thuy said that she buys bread here 2-3 days a week.

Ms. Ly has been open for sale for over a year. The shop is located in alley 283/52 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (District 10).

“I learned about the shop through a vegetarian friend's recommendation. From the first time I ate there, I liked the taste of the bread so I often come here to support. I'm not a vegetarian, I just bought it because it tasted good. The owner is also enthusiastic and cheerful, I will support her for a long time," she said, happily bringing the bread back to her office.

Each portion of bread at Ly's shop costs 20,000 VND, customers can eat more depending on their needs. With reasonable prices, it is also the reason why Mr. Hung (34 years old, living in District 3) often stops here to buy food on the way to work.

Every day, Ms. Ly is happy when she sells bread in the morning, and in the evening she is busy with her work as a makeup artist. After that, she continues to go to the market, preparing for the next day's sale. The owner's joy is seeing customers satisfied with the food she makes...
