The opening match of the final round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025) was the clash between Ton Duc Thang University and Tra Vinh University, taking place on the afternoon of March 1. Head coach Nguyen Dinh Long said that the goal of Ton Duc Thang University on the opening day was 3 full points, to create a premise for the remaining matches in the group stage, and at the same time "give gifts" to a large number of fans.
The two teams created a balanced game. However, the opportunity became clearer for Ton Duc Thang University, when they played with an extra player in the last 10 minutes of the match. Center back Nguyen Chi Thanh of Tra Vinh University blocked a dangerous ball from the opponent, and was sent off with a second yellow card.

Mr. Long added: “To be honest, it is very regrettable. The other team lost a player, but we could not find at least 1 goal to win 3 points. However, starting the tournament with 1 point is also acceptable and we will try our best in the next matches.”
The head coach of Ton Duc Thang University said that the home players need to improve many issues to aim for good results. “The first match did not achieve the goal of winning 3 points, so the upcoming matches of Ton Duc Thang University may face difficulties. However, we still have the home field advantage and will enter the match with higher determination,” said coach Dinh Long.
Tra Vinh University team played with one less player from minute 70, when Nguyen Chi Thanh (number 3) received the second yellow card.
On the other side, Coach Tram Quoc Nam was not satisfied with the performance of the Tra Vinh University players in the opening match. According to Mr. Nam, the students did not show a coherent playing style, and their coordination and running skills were not good. "The coaching staff will make adjustments so that the team can play better, aiming for a ticket to the next round of the TNSV THACO Cup 2025."
The second round of Group A will take place on the afternoon of March 4. The host Ton Duc Thang University will face the first season champion Hue University, while Tra Vinh University will face the newcomer Quy Nhon University.
