To reach the final round, both had to go through three fierce rounds of competition with strong opponents from European countries such as Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Latvia, Cyprus, and the host country, the Czech Republic. The two Vietnamese athletes are also the only representatives of Asia to participate in this tournament in both the Middle Age 1 category (one person aged 30 and over, the other from 35 points and over), and Middle Age 2 (one person over 40 and one person over 45 years old). Athlete Nguyen My Trang said that she and her dance partner were very surprised by this achievement. "After finishing the Top 12 semi-final round, I thought my team had no chance of advancing because the opponents were too strong. The whole team was packing up to leave when suddenly the electronic board showed our names and the word Vietnam on the list of finalists, making us burst into tears of joy. It was wonderful when the Organizing Committee introduced the pair of athletes from Vietnam, the whole stadium erupted in applause. There is nothing more proud and meaningful than being listed in the world's top 50 on National Day, September 2, as a way to express the deep affection we want to give to our Fatherland and our loved ones who have always followed, encouraged and cheered us on throughout the competition," said My Trang.
