Accordingly, athlete Le Hung Cuong won the gold medal in the men's marathon (42.195 km). He competed impressively and finished first, defeating a series of strong candidates from the host country Laos. Hung Cuong traveled by road from Vietnam to Laos but still showed a strong physical foundation. He said he took advantage of the fact that his opponents could not maintain their running speed after the first 21km and rushed to the finish line.
Viettel Marathon Luang Prabang Unitel 2024 took place in the ancient capital of Luang Prabang (Laos) with the starting and finishing locations at the Luang Prabang National Museum area. More than 5,000 athletes had wonderful experiences on the poetic and ancient running route.
Mr. Le Hung Cuong won the gold medal.
" I knew this was the first major race organized by Vietnamese people in three Indochinese countries, so I registered to run in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. After a 30-hour journey by road, I was quite tired but very happy to be able to participate in the race in Laos ," champion Le Hung Cuong shared.
In the women's 42.195km event, Laotian athlete Lodkeo Inthakounmman won impressively. This national athlete who specializes in 10km and 21km runs tried her hand at the marathon distance for the first time and won on home soil.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Member of the Asian Athletics Council, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee - said: " On behalf of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, the Vietnam Athletics Federation, I would like to thank the Lao Olympic Committee, the leaders of Luang Prabang province, and Viettel Group for helping us organize the race. We want to promote the best images to international friends, as well as promote the economy at the race venues ".
After the race in Laos, the race will return to the capital Hanoi (Vietnam) on December 1, with an expected attendance of around 10,000 people. The third stage, Siem Reap, Cambodia, will host the race on December 22 at Angkor Wat - the country's famous world natural heritage complex.
