Sisters Van Chi (14 years old) and Van Linh (13 years old) are currently students at Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province. Previously, Van Chi and Van Linh won the women's doubles and women's team championships at the 2023 National Youth Table Tennis Tournament.
From December 16 to 21, two athletes Van Chi and Van Linh, along with a number of leading Vietnamese table tennis players, will participate in the 2024 US Open Table Tennis Tournament taking place in Las Vegas (Nevada). The tournament will be attended by 1,478 athletes from 19 countries and territories around the world, with a total prize of up to 68,000 USD.
Previously on December 19, sisters Van Chi and Van Linh unexpectedly won the silver medal in the U15 women's doubles after losing to the pair Mandy Yu and Abigail Yu (USA) with a score of 2-3.
Early this morning, December 21 (Vietnam time), Van Chi and Van Linh entered the final match of the U17 women's doubles against the American hosts Emily Quan (17 years old) and Abigail Yu (12 years old). As a result, the Vietnamese athlete pair excellently defeated their opponents with a score of 3-2 to win the gold medal.
Emily Quan won the bronze medal in the U17 and U19 women's singles of the US table tennis tournament. Meanwhile, Abigail Yu is only 12 years old this year and 2 days ago, she and Mandy Yu defeated Van Chi and Van Linh in the final match of the U15 women's doubles.
Previously, Abigail Yu also won 3 gold medals in the women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles at the U11 Pan-American Youth Championship. She also won the women's singles U11 at the 2023 World Youth Table Tennis Championship.

This is the first time Van Chi, Van Linh and other Vietnamese table tennis players have participated in the US Open - a tournament with a long history and the participation of many world-class players.
Almost all Vietnamese athletes participating in the 2024 US Open are “self-sufficient” because they do not have a personal coach to guide their tactics. The main professional supporter for Van Chi and Van Linh is Mr. Tran Canh Tuan - Vice President of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation and Head of the delegation to the 2024 US Open.
The entire cost of the US trip was socialized by the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, and from the athletes’ own funds. This is a good sign for Vietnamese table tennis because in the past, without socialization, Vietnamese players could not have the opportunity to participate in major tournaments such as the US Open.
The achievement of 1 gold medal in U17 women's doubles and 1 silver medal in U15 women's doubles was an unexpected result for Van Chi, Van Linh as well as Vietnamese table tennis at the tournament.
