There is still a lot of room for tourism exploitation and Thai investment in Binh Dinh, but in reality it is still modest. One of the reasons is the difficulty in transportation.
On November 22, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province organized a meeting with Thai businesses. This is one of the activities to strengthen and expand the friendly relationship, investment cooperation and trade development between Binh Dinh province and Thai partners.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, proposed that the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province have policies to encourage and support airlines of the two countries to open direct flights.
Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee, affirmed that Thailand is one of the important partners of this province. Up to now, there have been 10 projects of Thai investors implemented in Binh Dinh province with a total registered capital of over 106 million USD, mainly in the fields of industrial production, trade and services.
Mr. Dung said that Binh Dinh province has identified its vision and future development orientation as a center of science and technology, innovation, and an important place for applying artificial intelligence in Vietnam. Sustainable economic development is based on pillars including science and technology; manufacturing and processing industry; information technology and artificial intelligence industry; high-quality tourism; organic agriculture, clean agriculture and logistics systems linked to seaports and airports.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that for Thailand, Vietnam is a close and important partner in bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks on tourism. It is the third largest tourist sending market in ASEAN. Vietnamese tourists to Thailand reached nearly 1.05 million in 2019, recovering almost completely in 2023 with nearly 1.03 million.
Binh Dinh province in particular, and the South Central Coast region of Vietnam in general, have a very favorable position for tourism development because they are located on the trans-Vietnam tourism route, connecting the "Central Heritage Road", "Central Highlands Green Road", and "East-West Tourism Corridor".
Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan spoke at the conference.
To develop tourism between Binh Dinh province and Thailand, Mr. Khanh suggested that the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province have policies to encourage and support airlines of the two countries to open direct flights connecting major tourist cities of Thailand to Binh Dinh to create a boost for tourist exchange and direct investment.
Ms. Supakan Yodchun, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Office in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that most Thai tourists choose tours connecting by air in the three regions of Vietnam. In particular, in the Central region, including the localities of Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Nha Trang, Binh Thuan, Da Lat with a stay of about 4 days 3 nights or 3 days 2 nights.
However, transportation restrictions between destinations and language barriers are major challenges for Thai tourists when coming to Vietnam.
For Binh Dinh province, Ms. Supakan Yodchun suggested two directions to start developing and promoting tourism with Thailand: connecting with existing flights between Thailand and Vietnam. For land routes, targeting the Thai tourist market in the Northeast region, especially Ubon Ratchathani province, the closest province to Binh Dinh.
Considering this opinion, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of Binh Dinh Province, said that the locality will try to have an international airport soon. Regarding the road route, regarding the suggestion of a route connecting the Northeast region of Thailand through Laos, the Chairman of Binh Dinh Province hopes that the Tourism Authority of Thailand will help the province approach travel associations and tourism-related associations to work together to introduce a package of products between Thailand and Binh Dinh Province.
