At a working session with Hau Giang and Kien Giang provinces, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested these localities to review and thoroughly resolve difficulties and problems in slow-progressing projects.
On the afternoon of March 20, in Hau Giang province, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long worked with Hau Giang and Kien Giang provinces on the production and business situation, national target programs, and implementation of economic and social growth scenarios.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested localities to thoroughly resolve difficulties and obstacles for slow-progressing projects.
The focus is on removing difficulties and obstacles.
Concluding the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of localities in 2024 to achieve economic development targets higher than the national average.
To achieve the growth target in 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that based on comments from ministries and branches, Hau Giang and Kien Giang provinces should review all economic development goals and targets. From there, they should build a development scenario that is suitable to the actual situation and the potential and strengths of the locality. In particular, pay more attention to the strengths of the Mekong Delta region, which is to increase the proportion of agricultural development.
"To make this growth scenario a reality, what do we need to rely on and what do we need? For now, you guys complete the reports as requested by the working group. In this growth scenario, we need to pay more attention to the strengths of the Mekong Delta region, which is agriculture," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
For projects that are behind schedule, the Deputy Prime Minister requested localities to review difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process of each project, thereby proposing solutions to remove them and speed up the implementation progress.
Regarding the recommendations of localities, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Government Office to synthesize and assign ministries and branches to respond in writing, and report to the Government on issues under the Government's authority.
Previously, at the working session, leaders of Hau Giang and Kien Giang provinces reported on the production and business situation, construction investment and economic growth targets in 2025 of the localities.
Focus on removing slow-moving projects
Reporting to the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, said that in the first 3 months of 2025, the province's socio-economic performance achieved a number of outstanding indicators, with an economic growth rate of 10.14%, GRDP per capita increasing by 15.12% over the same period, and total import-export turnover reaching 1,358 million USD, up 4.65% over the same period.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee spoke at the meeting.
In 2025, the province has allocated a capital plan of more than 7,122 billion VND, 518 billion higher than the capital assigned by the Prime Minister. Statistics as of March 15, the disbursement reached 4% of the plan, 11.12% lower than the same period.
Mr. Hoa explained that the disbursement rate is still low because the appraisal and approval of new projects is still slow. Some investors have not paid close attention to the direction and completion of procedures.
Besides, compensation, support and resettlement work encountered many difficulties regarding unit prices, compensation plans, land recovery procedures, etc.
According to Mr. Hoa, the province has 43 investment projects behind schedule, including one budget investment project and 42 non-budget investment projects. The province will focus on resolving difficulties and obstacles of the projects in 2025.
Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway through Hau Giang.
Talking about key tasks and solutions until the end of 2025, the Standing Vice Chairman of Hau Giang province said that the province will focus on directing the issuance of mechanisms and policies to develop economic sectors.
Along with that, promote the growth of dynamic regions and economic corridors, accelerate the implementation and concretization of provincial planning; focusing on developing the dynamic economic corridor, the Can Tho - Ca Mau highway connecting with Ho Chi Minh City.
The representative of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province said that the socio-economic situation in the first 3 months of 2025 in the province achieved many positive results.
The locality proposed two economic growth scenarios, in which scenario 1 strives for GRDP growth of 10.02% or more and scenario 2 is GRDP growth of 8% or more.
