On the evening of October 17, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ham Thuan Bac district said that prolonged heavy rain caused water levels to rise, flooding hundreds of hectares of dragon fruit and aloe vera gardens, cutting off some areas.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, the locality mobilized rescue forces to deploy a plan to support the evacuation of 21 people from flooded areas to safety.

According to initial data, 122 houses were flooded about 0.5m in Ham Chinh commune (50 houses), Ma Lam commune (45 houses); Ham Tri commune (21 houses), Thuan Hoa commune (6 houses); 6 houses had their roofs blown off in Hong Son commune. Two points were cut off (including Cau Sat Cai river - Tam Hung, Ma Lam; Nha Dam bridge - Ham Tri commune). About 920ha of agricultural production area was flooded, of which 415ha of rice, 145ha of dragon fruit, 360ha of various vegetables. Total damage is estimated at about 9 billion VND.

In addition, the flood from upstream combined with the discharge of water from Song Quao and Song Khan reservoirs caused damage to crops and property of people in Thuan Hoa commune (Ham Thuan Bac district), estimated at about 16 billion VND.

According to the assessment of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Ham Thuan Bac district, in the coming time, the flood situation will be complicated. Therefore, to avoid damage to people in affected areas, it is required that localities in the area promptly notify people living along the flood discharge route and river mouth to proactively have prevention plans, ensuring absolute safety for people.

At the same time, authorities put up warning signs at bridges, culverts, and river spillways and prohibit people from wading across streams when reservoirs are operating to regulate water; check and proactively harvest agricultural products that are ready for harvest, do not graze livestock and poultry along streams, minimize damage caused by floods; notify people to raise their belongings, supplies, and assets to avoid flooding, and minimize damage to people's property.
