Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa's family in Trung Tam village boldly converted ineffective hilly and mixed garden areas to growing mulberry and raising silkworms, and after a year, the economic accounting was much more effective.

Ms. Hoa said: "In early 2024, I tested nearly 1 hectare of mulberry to raise silkworms. Seeing that the economic efficiency was much higher than growing rice and vegetables, I have now expanded the area to 2 hectares. With support for seeds, silkworm raising techniques and stable consumption of silkworm cocoons, I am confident in developing the mulberry growing and silkworm raising profession to increase income."

The same goes for Ms. Le Thi Thu's family in Yen Tien village. In early July 2024, they just started converting 1 hectare of garden and hill to mulberry cultivation for silkworm raising. With technical guidance and support from commune officials, after 3 months of mulberry cultivation, her family raised the first batch of silkworms with 4 trays, producing 40 kg of cocoons, the price of cocoons ranges from 160,000 - 180,000 VND/kg and the first batch of silkworms earned her more than 6 million VND.

Ms. Thu shared: "Raising silkworms is not as hard as before. If you have the manpower, you can raise baby silkworms. If you want to raise silkworms quickly, you can raise them at about 4 weeks old. Just focus on taking care of them according to the right techniques and after 12 days you will have a brood of silkworms. The breeding technique is also simple, it only takes 2 days for the silkworms to eat and finish a brood. So, according to calculations, in 1 month, I can raise 2 broods, and after deducting the cost of the seeds, I still earn over 12 million VND. Compared to growing vegetables, growing mulberry to raise silkworms is much more effective."

With the goal of making mulberry cultivation and sericulture a key industry in the economic development of the commune; at the same time, effectively implementing the Project on developing mulberry cultivation and sericulture in Van Yen district for the period 2024 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, the Party Committee of Yen Phu commune issued Decision No. 123-QD/DU, dated March 12, 2024 on the establishment of the Steering Committee for implementing the Project; planning a mulberry cultivation and sericulture area of 30 hectares.

At the same time, the Commune Party Committee directed and mobilized the entire political system to participate, established delegations to each village to propagate, mobilize, and review the existing land area of households, the need to rent land, and build silkworm houses; propagate policies and benefits of growing mulberry and raising silkworms so that people understand and proactively implement them; organize delegations for people to visit models of growing mulberry and raising silkworms in Xuan Ai commune, localities with effective mulberry and raising silkworms and Yen Bai Silk Joint Stock Company in Bao Dap commune, Tran Yen district; directed to promote propaganda on the commune's information pages, associations, groups, Zalo, Facebook... of the commune; coordinated with specialized agencies, departments and offices of the district in supporting seeds, techniques, building silkworm houses, buying nets... so that people can feel secure in production.

The commune also directed the establishment of a cooperative with 22 members as a supplier of silkworm breeds, fertilizers and materials, and a bridge to purchase products between Yen Bai Mulberry and Silk Joint Stock Company and the people, ensuring the rights and stable prices for the people during the production process. In 2024, Yen Phu planted over 16 hectares of mulberry and from the beginning of 2025 until now, it has planted over 3 hectares; striving to plant 15 hectares by the end of the year, bringing the total mulberry area of the commune to over 30 hectares and expanding the area to all 6 villages.

Mr. Truong Ngoc Tuan - Vice Chairman of Yen Phu Commune People's Committee said: "To achieve the goal of completing 30 hectares of mulberry according to Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council, in addition to promoting propaganda and mobilizing the participation of the entire political system; the commune proactively contacted to buy mulberry seedlings in Bao Dap Commune, Tran Yen District; supported free transportation and mulberry seedlings for farmers; at the same time, proactively linked production to ensure stable output for farmers. Thereby, promoting the sustainable development of mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding, bringing economic efficiency and stable income".

According to calculations, each hectare of mulberry cultivation for silkworm rearing brings in a total income of about 276 million VND. Therefore, in order to sustainably develop the mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing profession, the Party Committee and the authorities of Yen Phu commune direct the implementation of planting area planning, promote propaganda, and mobilize people to consolidate and exchange plots to create concentrated planting areas to facilitate cultivation, development, and the formation of a sustainable chain of links.
