Vietnam Institute of Water Resources works in Hoang Su Phi district

Hoang Su Phi has sandy soil, mountains, steep slopes with many deep ravines, so the risk of landslides is high, especially during the rainy season. After the rainy season of 2024, in Hoang Su Phi district, there were more than 20 locations with high risk of landslides, the district has relocated 195 households. Landslides in recent years in Hoang Su Phi district have reached an alarming level with the number of deaths increasing, many people's properties and welfare works have also been buried by rocks and soil.

With the aim of improving capacity in assessing and mapping landslide risks, supporting early warning - early action and response to landslides in Hoang Su Phi district. The project “ Building a landslide risk map due to rain, supporting early warning to the community in Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province” will assess the creation of a landslide risk map due to rain; develop software based on Web-GIS platform to monitor landslides to support early warning - early action and response methods; Improve the capacity of central and local agencies in landslide monitoring to achieve the highest efficiency in response, minimizing risks for people.

The first step is to collect documents, conduct field surveys and collect soil and rock samples, build a landslide database in parallel with building a landslide risk assessment model and developing an early warning - early action - early response system. Finally, evaluate the pilot results and complete the system, transfer to the People's Committee of Ha Giang province and communes of Hoang Su Phi district.
