On the afternoon of August 16, Cao Thang Technical College (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) held a workshop on "Training human resources to serve the semiconductor industry at colleges".
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Truong Anh Dung, Director General of the General Department of Vocational Education, said that semiconductors and microchips have been identified by the Government as one of the high-tech, priority industries. However, this industry is receiving more attention and training at universities than colleges.
According to Mr. Dung, in reality, vocational education provides a large source of highly skilled human resources for the city, and some colleges have been pioneering in coordinating with businesses to train for this industry.
Dr. Le Dinh Kha, Principal of Cao Thang Technical College, said that many big names in the semiconductor industry such as Samsung, Qualcomm, Infineon, Amkor have invested in Vietnam with many projects worth billions of USD. Many domestic companies are also entering this market such as Viettel, FPT, VNChip, etc. According to Dr. Kha, colleges need to be well prepared to "enter" this field of training, contributing to providing human resources to serve the development strategy of Vietnam's semiconductor industry.
Professor Dang Luong Mo, Honorary Professor of HOSEI University (Japan), advisor of Ho Chi Minh City National University, Honorary President of Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Association, emphasized that in the upcoming stage of building the semiconductor - microchip industry, we should focus on in-depth research and development in basic science related to semiconductors, semiconductor processing - the scientific and technological foundation directly related to the semiconductor - microchip industry.
