Gangster boss Thao Lui and his followers prepare to appear in court

On October 10, Phan Thiet City People's Court has just decided to bring the case of property destruction to first instance trial.

The defendants brought to trial include: Nguyen Van Thao (also known as Thao Lui, Bay Thao, born in 1965, residing in Quarter 2, Binh Hung Ward, Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan); Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong (also known as 1970, residing in Quarter 2, Binh Hung Ward, Phan Thiet City); Pham Quoc Cuong (also known as Nhi, born in 1987, residing in Quarter 4, Phu Tai Ward, Phan Thiet City); Phan Anh Kim (also known as Hung Chua, born in 1973, residing in Quarter 2, Xuan An Ward, Phan Thiet City); Le Minh Khoi (also known as Khoi Bac Ky, born in 1982 in Thanh Hoa).

The defendants were prosecuted by the People's Procuracy of Binh Thuan province for the crime of property destruction under the provisions of Clause 1, Article 178 of the Penal Code.

The trial is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. on October 17, 2023 and will last for 3 days (October 17, 18 and 19, 2023).

Previously, on June 3, the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security coordinated with Binh Thuan Police; Phan Thiet City Police to execute a search warrant at Thao Lui's house in Xuan An Ward, Phan Thiet City. However, Thao had fled the area.

After more than 2 days of mobilizing forces to investigate, on June 5, the police force arrested Thao while he was hiding in a hotel in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City. The police seized many of Thao's luggage and 5 mobile phones along with many SIM cards he brought along for communication.

On June 7, the Phan Thiet City Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to prosecute Nguyen Van Thao for property destruction and issued a temporary detention order.

Other defendants also prosecuted and detained include: Pham Quoc Cuong, Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Le Minh Khoi and Le Thuan Danh, all for the crime of property destruction.

According to the investigation, in 2019, due to a land dispute, Thao mobilized his followers to destroy property of people in Phu Hai ward, Phan Thiet city. After that, this person filed a complaint with the police.
