Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha, along with provincial leaders, departments and agencies in Ba Ria - Vung Tau; former political prisoners of Con Dao from provinces and cities and leaders and people of Con Dao district.
At the sacred moment, Mr. Pham Viet Thanh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, rang 9 bells from the great bell at Con Dao Temple to open the memorial ceremony. After that, the delegates held a flag-saluting ceremony and observed a minute of silence to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh, ancestors, heroic martyrs, and patriots who are resting in Con Dao.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province Le Ngoc Khanh said that with the philosophy of "When drinking water, remember its source", in 1992, the Hang Duong Cemetery relic was started to be restored, 1,923 graves were found and built. Then, in 2009, the Con Dao Temple was started to be built, this relic cluster searched for and gathered 2,284 martyrs who were engraved on the stone stele at the Temple.
"On this land and out at sea, there are still so many people who have remained at the bottom of the ocean after failed prison breaks, and so many outstanding sons of the nation have turned into dust.
All of them silently devoted their entire lives to the country. The great sacrifices of generations of Con Dao prisoners are heroic pages of the nation's history with their love for their homeland," Mr. Khanh emotionally said.

In addition to the death anniversary, this year Ba Ria-Vung Tau province organized many gratitude activities to educate patriotism and revolutionary traditions for all classes of people, especially the young generation.
"We vow to join hands and hearts to continue the glorious tradition of previous generations, together determined to build a united bloc, for a civilized and prosperous Con Dao and Vietnam, worthy of the great contributions of our predecessors, heroic martyrs, revolutionary soldiers and patriotic compatriots who are resting on this sacred land," Mr. Khanh added.
