I want to keep the purity in music

After the competition, PiaLinh shared with Giao Thong Newspaper about her journey to pursue a professional music career.

PiaLinh stopping at the top 8 of Vietnam Idol 2023 is quite a surprising result. Do you regret that you were even predicted to be the champion of this year's season?

Having come this far, the result will no longer be mine alone, but will be for all the people who love and care for me. Therefore, I am sad, regretful and confused for not being able to fully respond to everyone's feelings.

However, after all, I feel happy and proud because I am satisfied with my own efforts. If I could do it again, I would not change my choice because the prize was not my goal when coming to this playground. I want to discover myself with the excitement of a young person.

I had never studied or worked in a professional environment before, and at such a constant intensity. The only thing I had was a passion for music, so I worked hard every day and every round.

Looking back on this memorable journey, were there any pressures and difficulties behind the viral social media performances that the audience didn't know about?

Competing in Vietnam Idol 2023 is the first time I have left home, family, and relatives to step into a new horizon with many new challenges. I feel overwhelmed by everything. Entering the competition, I was an immature girl, there were so many things I lacked in music such as knowledge, technique, courage...

In addition, the continuous work intensity every week in the live show round has affected my physical and mental health too much.

During the competition, I often lost my voice and had throat problems. Not only that, when I stood on stage, I still trembled, which greatly affected my performance. I just reminded myself to work harder. Every day, I learned a little more from my seniors, from every encounter that I was lucky enough to have.

I have never considered the contestants as my opponents, they are like seniors for me to learn from.

After the contest, has your life changed much?

After the competition, I was happy to have more audiences. Even the way people looked at me, I started to be known by more people and my voice now has people. I am also starting to work on my music plans, so life is a bit busier.

Pursue your passion

PiaLinh appeared in Den Vau's MV and live show.

Known as Den Vau 's "muse" in the MV "Cooking for you", PiaLinh suddenly became a potential contestant in Vietnam Idol 2023. Where do you see yourself on the path to conquering music?

I think I am a young person who is trying to pursue my passion. My journey into professional art was also by chance. That was the milestone when I worked with Mr. Den in "Cooking for You".

I feel lucky and grateful to be favored to be called the "muse" of someone I admire. From then on, I have to know how to discipline myself. Thanks to the chance to work with Mr. Den Vau, I have had a big change in my career, and have learned many lessons when coming to Vietnam Idol. I believe those lessons will follow me on the upcoming journey.

Where does PiaLinh's passion for music come from?

I have loved and been passionate about music since I was a child. From a young age, I mainly participated in the art movement at school and that is also where I nurtured my passion for singing. However, no one in my family worked in anything related to art, so my parents always directed me to follow the path of education.

Previously, I was a student of the symphonic piano department at Hanoi College of Arts. I learned a lot about music theory and piano, but I did not have the opportunity to improve my vocal skills. I plan to study vocal music at another school after finishing my first year at Foreign Trade University. Along with pursuing music, I still want to equip myself with the necessary knowledge.

Want to become an artist to serve society

PiaLinh is currently a first-year student, Faculty of Foreign Economics, Foreign Trade University, Hanoi.

Deciding to pursue a professional music career, what do you want to convey through your music?

PiaLinh is the stage name that Den Vau gave me. It is a combination of my name and my favorite musical instrument – the piano. So, with music, I want to keep it as pure as the piano notes.

Of course, that doesn't mean I limit myself to the image of a girl with a clear, high, and slightly soaring voice. I want to change and become a dynamic artist, trying out many different aspects.

I also think and worry a lot about the practicality and social value of my music products. After collaborating with Mr. Den and the "Cooking for You" crew, there is one thing I will always remember: "being an artist is to serve society".

Before, I didn't think much about this aspect because I was still quite new to music. I simply thought that being an artist is doing what you like and being supported by some people.

But now I also try to make sure that the products I release in the future will aim at very humane values and serve society. That music may not have a spotless white appearance, but when looking at it, you will feel happy, peaceful and have special emotions.

Showbiz is complicated, the music market is increasingly competitive. How does PiaLinh know what she needs to keep and what she should change so as not to be out of step with the market and tastes?

I am still learning, trying hard and observing, understanding myself to become more mature. I always read carefully and appreciate all criticism and suggestions, so that I can learn something from them.

Up until now, I have always had a barrier in my belief: "Am I really good enough to pursue what I love?". Therefore, the audience's comments are definitely the motivation for me to improve. Currently, I have found a clear direction for myself with a specific plan. I hope that the upcoming journey will continue to receive the same attention, contributions and encouragement from everyone.
